Marcus Trescothick

DOB:25.12.75
County:Somerset
Test debut: v West Indies, Old Trafford 2000
One-day international debut: v Zimbabwe, The Oval 2000

Left hand opening batsman, right arm medium pace bowler
Trescothick continues to grow in stature as an international batsman and is seen as favourite to succeed Nasser Hussain as skipper one day.

Made over 400 Test runs in India and New Zealand over the winter, and has now forged a a powerful opening partnership with Michael Vaughan.

The Somerset left-hander hit a brilliant century - the best of his three to date in Tests - in England's first win of the summer at Edgbaston.

And he is now back to fitness after missing the first three Tests of the India series.

A free-scoring batsman, Trescothick will not allow himself to be tied down for long and is especially severe on anything dropped short.

Found himself given the additional responsibility of keeping wicket in one-day cricket in New Zealand.

Do you know your short leg from your mid-off?
Nasser Hussain is looking for victory against India
