Hodge was thrilled with the Foxes' victory over Surrey

Leicestershire skipper Brad Hodge was delighted after his side's thrilling Twenty20 Cup victory over Surrey.

"Our planning, preparation, determination and good cricket got us through," said Hodge, whose unbeaten 77 was crucial to the outcome.

"It's difficult being an Australian coming over to captain a county cricket Championship side.

"But so far, the boys have rallied round and done well. They told me it was time I came to the party."

Hodge also praised Jeremy Snape for his contribution of 34 vital runs in an unbroken partnership of 77 which steered the Foxes to glory over the defending champions.

"I don't think he knew he could hit sixes! Jeremy took the pressure off at the end and it was a great performance."

Hodge revealed he had been able to pick up a signal between star Surrey bowler Adam Hollioake before he bowled his destructive slower balls.

Hollioake, the tournament's leading wicket-taker, was hit for six and four by Jeremy Snape in his final over to effectively seal the match.

"There was one delivery where I shouted to Jeremy before he even bowled it and he hit it for four," Hodge added.

"He bowled pretty well - he's a crafty character - but we remained cool and patient."
