Twenty20 Cup final:
Surrey 168-6 lost to Leicestershire 169-3 (19.1 overs) by seven wickets

Leicestershire ended Surrey's two-year unbeaten run to claim the second Twenty20 Cup with a thrilling seven-wicket victory at a packed Edgbaston.

Brad Hodge hit an unbeaten 77 from 53 balls as the Foxes overhauled Surrey's 168-6 with five balls to spare.

Jeremy Snape hit the winning boundary to finish 34 not out, after sharing an unbroken stand of 47 with his captain.

Surrey opener Alistair Brown (64) had earlier shared an 80-run stand for the second wicket with Scott Newman (21).


Latest action:

20th over: Snape takes the Foxes over the line with a boundary as Surrey are finally beaten in the Twenty20 Cup.

19th over: Snape strikes a heavy blow to lift Hollioake over long-on for a crucial six. Hodge then plays straight down the ground for a four.

18th over: Ormond bowls full to Hodge as two rare dot balls are delivered in succession. JUst four singles are scored, leaving Leicestershire needing 20 runs off the last two overs to win.

17th over: Hodge smacks Hollioake to the fence before the Surrey man hits back to beat the outside edge. A streaky French cut then earns the Foxes skipper another boundary.

16th over: Snape chips Doshi straight down the ground for a six. A briskly run single sees Hodge make his ground at the danger end.

15th over: Hollioake leaks a boundary before snaffling Sadler with a slower ball as Clarke does the rest at short mid-wicket. Leicestershire: 122-3 (Sadler 6 off 7 balls)

14th over: Doshi's stifling spell continues as his third over costs just two runs.

13th over: Hollioake is tossed the ball to start his last spell in Twenty20 cricket. He weaves his magic straight away as Mahmood clings onto a fine catch on the long-off rope to oust Stevens. Leicestershire: 114-2 (Stevens 20 off 22 balls)

12th over: Three singles are followed by two swept boundaries by Hodge off Doshi.

11th over: Stevens does more than keep out Ormond's yorker as he punches it past mid-on for four.

10th over: Slow left-armer Doshi comes on to replace Sampson, his impressive first over going for five singles.

9th over: Hodge races to his half-century off 26 balls before Stevens gets in on the act with his second boundary.

8th over: Sampson keeps his second over down to six runs to offer some respite for Surrey.

7th over: Ormond first ball after replacing Mahmood is a wide. He gets the next ball on track but Hodge cuts with both feet off the ground for four. The Aussie batsman then drives and beats mid-off for another boundary.

6th over: Sampson comes on to replace the stage-frightened Clarke. Maddy cuts past point for another four before he drags a cross-bat slog onto his stumps. Stevens flicks his wrists and maintains the scoring rate with a boundary through mid-wicket. Leicestershire: 62-1 (Maddy 22 off 17 balls)

5th over: Mahmood errs down off-side and is cut beautifully by Maddy to the fence. An lbw appeals is then turned down as the batsmen scamper through for a leg-bye to bring up the 50 partnership. A boundary follows as Hodge turns behind square.

4th over: Clarke drops one in short and pays the price as Hodge hooks behind square for six. The Surrey all-rounder's struggle continues as he concedes four wides before being cover-driven by Maddy for four. Hodge finishes a 21-run over with a pulled boundary through mid-wicket.

3rd over: Mahmood overpitches down leg-side, inviting Hodge to clip him for four. Maddy skies a cut shot but a retreating Benning gets nowhere near it.

2nd over: Clarke shares the new ball intriguingly ahead of Ormond. Hollioake fields well at mid-off and Ramprakash equally well at deep square as seven runs are scored in the over.

1st over: Surrey's defence starts poorly as Mahmood opens with a wide down leg-side. An errant shy at the stumps earns the Foxes four overthrows and makes Ramprakash visibly livid.

INNINGS BREAK

20th over: The final over, bowled by Cleary, costs 16 as Mahmood flicks behind square for six before seeing his stumps levelled. Ramprakash finishes the innings with a boundary. Surrey: 160-6 (Mahmood 13 off 6 balls)

19th over: Gibson is on to bowl the penultimate over. Ramprakash wastes a full-toss to pick up only a single. A thick outside edge the earns Mahmood a boundary.

18th over: Cleary returns to the attack for the unenviable task of bowling at the death. He is up to the task as Hollioake mis-hits a slog and is caught by Hodge at mid-wicket. Surrey: 141-5 (Hollioake 4 off 5 balls)

17th over: Henderson strikes again as Clarke scrapes the sky down the ground but finds Cleary at long-on. Surrey: 135-4 (Clarke 13 off 13 balls)

16th over: Ramprakash dances down the pitch to Snape and drives straight to the fence.

15th over: Clarke meets the pitch of Henderson's ball and lofts high over long-on for six.

14th over: Ramprakash makes a mess of a sweep shot as Nixon appeals unsuccessfully for caught behind. Five runs are scored in Snape's solid over.

13th over: Dagnall (1-36) is replaced by Henderson, who strikes immediately to have Brown caught by Sadler at point. Surrey: 109-3 (Brown 64 off 41 balls; 9x4, 2x6)

12th over: Snape comes on and leaks just two runs in four balls before Brown cuts to the fence.

11th over: Dagnall strikes as the Foxes hold onto one, Newman holing out to Cleary at long-on. But Brown soon brings up his half-century (off 33 balls) and then celebrates with a six off a free hit. Surrey: 91-2 (Newman 21 off 27 balls)

10th over: Another chance goes begging as Gibson knocks the ball over the rope at long-off to gift Brown a life and a boundary. Gibson is again shown up as he fails to get down and concedes another four.

9th over: Brown makes the sweeper work hard again with an off-drive that earns only a single. He then heaves and misses, but Nixon cannot glove the ball as four byes are conceded. Newman is reprieved as he is dropped at mid-wicket.

8th over: Brown square-drives Maddy for his sixth boundary as the runs continue to flow.

7th over: The fifty partnership is brought up with a single as Dagnall prodiuces a tight over.

6th over: Batting star Maddy replaces Gibson and bowls three dot balls before Brown hits successive fours through mid-wicket and down to third man.

5th over: Cleary is rested after two overs, to be replaced by Dagnall. He keeps things tight for four balls before Brown charges down the pitch and lifts him over deep extra-cover for six. A thick outside edge then brings a boundary.

4th over: Brown glances Gibson for four before a rising ball deceives keeper Nixon, who concedes two byes.

3rd over: Newman luckily picks up a boundary as thick inside edge races down to deep backward square, but there is nothing flukey about the next shot which is whipped through mid-wicket for four.

2nd over: An early breakthrough for the Foxes as Benning top-edges Gibson into the safe hands of Henderson at third man. Surrey: 11-1 (Benning 5 off 4 balls)

1st over: Cleary opens with a wide before turning painfully on his ankle in the delivery stride. He bravely sees out an economical opening over.
