England take charge
Second Test, Chittagong: Bangladesh v England

Hussain sweeps
My timing has been perfect all game

England batted Bangladesh into submission, taking a lead of 467 at stumps on day three of the second Test.

A 138-run stand between Nasser Hussain (95) and Graham Thorpe (54) left victory looking inevitable after England bowled their hosts out for 152.

Richard Johnson completed his second five-wicket haul in his second Test for a first innings lead of 174.

Rikki Clarke was lbw for 27 in the last over of the day as England went to stumps 293-5.

Marcus Trescothick's appearance at seven despite a sprained thumb hinted England are not ready to declare, though Nasser Hussain suggested they "wouldn't be doing too much batting" on Saturday.

Chris Read was unbeaten overnight on a career best 38.

The omens looked bad for Bangladesh as soon as leading fast bowler Mashrafe Mortaza suffered a knee injury in the seventh over.

Again the tourists squandered a solid opening stand of 66 as Mark Butcher and Michael Vaughan fell within 12 minutes.

But Thorpe and Hussain weathered an early spell of pressure from the spinners to score at a brisk pace, Hussain cracking a six off Rajin Saleh to take the stand into three figures.

Left-armer Mohammad Rafique profited from aggressive shots by both men in a haul of three wickets.

Thorpe was trapped lbw looking to flick off the back foot and Hussain chipped a return catch within sight of his 14th Test century.

Johnson celebrates
Johnson claimed his second five-wicket haul in his second Test
However, he had already passed 20,000 career first-class runs and made amends for running captain Michael Vaughan out for 25.

Vaughan's dismissal was the second blow in 12 minutes after Mark Butcher fell to Rafique for the third time this series, caught behind off a back-foot prod for 42.

Mortaza had earlier lost his off-stump swinging wildly as Johnson, in the side for the first time since his June debut against Zimbabwe, completed figures of 5-49.

It is now just a question of when England will complete a 2-0 series win.
Resuming on 93-4, the hosts had lost three wickets by the time they passed the target of 127 needed to avoid the follow-on.

Johnson claimed all three, snaring Saleh and Khaled Mashud in consecutive overs.

After a patient, 95-ball 28, Mushfiqur Rahman could do little with a short-pitched delivery that squared him up, providing delighted debutant Martin Saggers with his first Test wicket.

And the Kent bowler added a second scalp as last man Enamul Haque Jr hooked to deep backward square leg.

England: M P Vaughan (capt), M E Trescothick, M A Butcher, N Hussain, G P Thorpe, R Clarke, C M W Read (wkt), A F Giles, M J Hoggard, R Johnson, M Saggers.

Bangladesh: Khaled Mahmud (captain), Hannan Sarkar, Javed Omar, Habibul Bashar, Rajin Saleh, Alok Kapali, Khaled Mashud, Mohammad Rafique, Mashrafe Mortaza, Mushfiqur Rahman, Enamul Haque Jr.
