Johnson savours England return
Johnson cancelled his honeymoon to play for England
Richard Johnson was delighted after his second five-wicket haul put England in complete control against Bangladesh.

The Somerset paceman vindicated his decision to skip his honeymoon in favour of an England call-up to replace the injured James Anderson.

Johnson was not selected for the first Test, but bounced back with figures of 5-49 as England closed in on a 2-0 series whitewash.

He said: "You just have to take your opportunities and I tried to do that."

I'm not contracted for the Sri Lankan Test series but if I can take my opportunities then who knows

At the close of play on day three, England had reached 293-5, a lead of 467 over Bangladesh.

Nasser Hussain and Graham Thorpe were in the runs, former captain Hussain making 95 and Thorpe 54.

After Bangladesh, England face Sri Lanka in a three-Test series.

Johnson, who took 6-33 on his debut against Zimbabwe, added: "It's been good so far although it was frustrating last summer after making my Test debut and then not playing again because of injuries.

"I'm not contracted for the Sri Lankan Test series but if I can take my opportunities then who knows?"

Hussain was caught five runs short of a 14th Test century having batted over six hours for a first-innings 76.

He said: "My timing has been perfect all game. Test cricket is about playing the situation and not being an individual.

"The first innings required putting a score on the board.

"We'd just lost three wickets and we have a young inexperienced middle-order, so it required someone with a bit of sense to get their head down and build a score.

"I was very proud of the way I batted."

Hussain hinted England would declare early on day four.

"With an hour's play left, we were told in all probability that would be it as we wouldn't be batting for long tomorrow.

"So if I'd wanted to get a ton I had to hurry up."
