Clarke was frustrated after conceding a boundary |
England's Rikki Clarke has been fined half of his match fee for verbally abusing a Bangladesh batsman during the first Test in Dhaka. The Surrey all-rounder swore at Mushfiqur Rahman after conceding a boundary during the fourth day's play.
The 22-year-old was charged with a level two breach of the International Cricket Council's code of conduct.
It could have resulted in Clarke being banned but match referee Wasim Raja decided a fine was enough.
The incident was spotted on TV by third umpire Akter Uddin.
He reported it to Raja, who ordered a hearing at the end of the match, which saw Clarke make his Test debut in place of injured Andrew Flintoff.
The ICC has clamped down on player discipline in recent weeks with a series of punishments handed out during the Pakistan v South Africa series.
Pace bowler Shoaib Akhtar was banned for one Test and two one-day internationals for verbal abuse towards Paul Adams during a Test match in Lahore.
South African skipper Graeme Smith was ordered to miss a one-day international for a similar offence, while all-rounder Andrew Hall received a two-Test ban for impeding Pakistan's Yousuf Youhana.
Shaun Pollock was fined his entire match fee for showing dissent to an umpire during a one-day game.
