BBC Sport has teamed up with fans on the TMS message boards to give you a fan's eye view of international cricket.
Each week, we will be choosing one supporter to sound off about his or her team.
This week Suranjan Weeraratne, 27, who originally hails from Colombo, but now lives in the Canadian city of Montreal, gives his views on Sri Lanka.
Who have been your best players in the last year?
Muralitharan (surprise, surprise), Chaminda Vaas and Kumar Sangakkara. Sanath Jayasuriya started the year with a bang, but tailed off a bit towards the end.
And your worst?
I would have to say Russel Arnold and Kumar Dharmasena.
Sum up the last year in one word:
Uneven

Now sum it up in 50:
A year of peaks and troughs. Performed patchily at the World Cup, followed by a disappointing home series against New Zealand.
Won the ODIs in the Caribbean and a comprehensive victory against England in the last Test saved face, after squandering two golden opportunities earlier. A semi-fulfilling year at best.
Which Sri Lankan ground is your favourite to watch international cricket at and why?
Galle International Stadium. Away from the hustle and bustle of Colombo, the stadium is in an idyllic location. Amidst the stunning back drop of the world renowned Galle Fort and with the sparkling blue waters of the Indian Ocean near by, the ground provides breathtaking scenery and a refreshingly cool atmosphere.
Are there any promising youngsters in your squad?
Michael Vandort is a very promising opening batsmen with an impeccable technique. There is a whole bunch of young fast bowlers coming through led by the four Fernandos, Nissanka and Kulasekera. Another one to keep an eye on is leg spinning all-rounder Lokuarachchi.
Player your team couldn't cope without?
Muralitharan, the heartbeat and talisman of the team.
Which opposition players do your fans most respect?
Rahul Dravid for his consistency and solidity, Shoaib Akthar for his explosive bursts and Jacques Kallis for his all-round utility, on top of obvious choices such as Tendulkar and Lara.

If you could choose one of these to play for Sri Lanka, which would it be?
I would prefer to be able to pick all of them, but if forced to choose one I would go for Shoaib.
Best moment as a Sri Lanka fan:
Undoubtedly, winning the World Cup in 1996. Beating Australia in the final was the stuff that dreams are made made of. Victory was all the sweeter, given everything that transpired during the acrimonious tour Down Under just prior to the tournament.
It was a very special moment and helped to put Sri Lanka firmly on the cricketing map.
Biggest let down:
Losing the first Test match against Australia in 1992, when we managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
Having totally dictated terms for much of the match, it was bitterly disappointing to fail at the final hurdle, when a hitherto unknown leg spinner named Shane Warne spun Australia to an unexpected victory.
Funniest thing seen at a match:
This is an easy one! It was a banner held aloft by a fan at one of the grounds during the aforementioned tour of Australia in 1995, which was mired by the chucking controversy.
The banner simply read "Hair or no Hair, Murali's balls are always fair". I thought it was hysterical and nearly fell out of my chair when I read it!!
Favourite all-time player:
David Gower. He was my childhood hero and I admired him for his grace, flair and natural flamboyance.

Worst player even seen:
Grant Bradburn of New Zealand.
Do Sri Lanka rely too much on the talents of Muttiah Muralitharan?
Yes, they do. The sheer number of overs he bowls in every game is worrying and I fear for his shoulder.
However, we have a crop of exciting new bowlers coming through the ranks, especially in the pace department and hopefully some of them will take their opportunity and make a name for themselves.
Not only will this take the pressure off Murali, but it will also prepare Sri Lanka for the inevitability that confronts us, say five years down the line - life without Murali.
Do you think Marvan Attapattu will make a better Test captain than Hashan Tillakaratne?
I believe so. Hashan has been a great servant of Sri Lankan cricket, but I wish he were a bit more imaginative and adventurous in his captaincy. He sometimes tends to let things drift along.
I feel Attapattu would be more assertive, but I see him more as a stop gap captain. I think in the long-term, our best bets are Jayawardene and Sangakkara.
If you were coach, what would your tactics be against Australia in the current ODI and Test series?
I would just tell my team to concentrate on their traditional strengths and not worry too much about what the Aussies are doing. I don't believe Sri Lanka will win by trying to emulate Australia's explosive playing style and matching fire with fire.
Do you think Sri Lanka will be able to retain the ICC Champions Trophy later this year?
As the tournament is scheduled during the latter part of the summer, the sun will be out and the wickets will be more batsmen friendly, which I believe will suit us.
I am confident that Sri Lanka will give a good account of themselves, but, I don't really see us winning, though I would be delighted to be proven wrong!!
