Sri Lanka profiles
DILHARA FERNANDO
Right-handed batsman; right-arm fast bowler

FACTFILE
Dilhara Fernando
DOB: 19.7.79
Test debut: v Pakistan, Colombo, 2000
ODI debut: v South Africa, Paarl 2001 1998

Physically imposing with genuine pace and bounce, Dilhara has been dogged by injuries during his short career.

Probably Sri Lanka's fastest bowler, the effort Dilhara puts into the delivery stride has seen him aggravate his back on several occasions.

When fit, he is genuine threat - as West Indian Ramnaresh Sarwan discovered in the World Cup when a knock to the head saw him rushed to the hospital.

But Dilhara can put wickets in jeopardy, also, with five-wicket hauls against South Africa in 200 and India in 2001 good examples of his talent.

Sri Lanka will hope this raw talent comes of age sooner rather than later, as his tendency to no-ball and leak runs are of as much concern as his injury problems.
