Sri Lanka profiles
MICHAEL VANDORT
Left-handed batsman; right-arm medium pace bowler

FACTFILE
Michael Vandort
DOB: 19.1.80
Test debut: v Bangladesh, Colombo, 2001
ODI debut: yet to play

Vandort bucked the trend of typical Sri Lanka cricketers by forcing his way into the national team with next to no experience in school cricket.

Good performances for Sri Lanka A were enough to attract the attention of selectors, and a century for a Board XI against India in 2000 enhanced his reputation.

Made to wait until late 2001 before making his Test debut, but impressed against Bangladesh in the Asian Test Championship with a solid 36.

Promoted to usual opening slot for his next - and to date only - appearance 10 months later against the same team, scoring 61 and 140.

Likes to get on the front foot to the pacemen, and a useful slip fielder as well.
