  1. Man City in a 'transition' period, but 'no excuses' for strugglingpublished at 13:31 GMT

Man City v Real Madrid (Tue, 20:00 GMT)

    Manchester City

Man City captain Bernardo Silva on why the club have struggled to reach the same levels they have in past seasons: "The obvious answer is that this is a transition. If you look when we won the treble, if you look at that team and the team now, maybe only four or five players are left in two and a half years.

"You might have your opinion, the manager might have his opinion, I might have mine. I do believe that having so many different players in such a short term doesn't help.

"Right now these young guys need time to adapt playing with each other, and that plays a major part. No excuses because we should have done much better at parts of this season."

Man City v Real Madrid (Tue, 20:00 GMT)

    Manchester City

Man City captain Bernardo Silva on if he would be shocked if Erling Haaland didn't start against Real Madrid: "We wouldn't be shocked with anything, because it is not our job to judge the managers decision, he gets paid a lot of money to make those decisions.

"We have a big squad, anyone is ready to play. Erling is a massive player for us, very important player, and in the big games you need those players. But we have fantastic players everywhere.

"No one is irreplaceable. I would obviously prefer to have Erling because when you have Erling on the pitch you are scoring goals, and we need goals tomorrow.

"We've played without Erling when he was injured, we've dealt with those situations.

"The big players are there for the big moments."

Manchester City's recent struggles have coincided with Erling Haaland's drop-off in goalscoring form.

In his first 17 Premier League games this season, Haaland scored 19 goals and had a shot conversion of 29%.

But in his last 12 games, he has had 36 shots and only scored three times - a drop to just an 8% shot conversion.

He has just four goals across his past 18 matches in all competitions, a huge dip from his early-season output.

  10. 'If we can be clinical we will be in the game'published at 12:55 GMT

Man City v Real Madrid (Tue, 20:00 GMT)

    Manchester City

Pep Guardiola on whether the task demands a perfect performance from his Manchester City side: "Yeah, definitely."

On whether he is planning to surprise Real Madrid: "No, it is about the players, putting it [the ball] into perfect positions. We played with four or five strikers in the first leg and didn't score a goal.

"Sometimes you play two false nines and something like that and you can score five goals. The ideas are there, we have to try not much different things that we have done at home and just try to score and defend better the positions.

"We need the perfect game in many senses. In the bad moments we know what can happen even in a perfect game in 93 or 94 minutes, we just have to try, don't give up. We can create chances, we know that. If we are able to be clinical and especially defend well then we will be in the game."

    Manchester City

Discussing the decision to give his players the day off from training, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola: "We train tomorrow [before the game]."

On whether the move to postpone training is a way of preparing his players mentally for the challenge: "It's related. The way you play, if you play good mentally you will be strong.

"I am not much concerned about the chances we are going to create, I am pretty sure that we are able to do it. At home we are always able to do it. It is more about how well we are going to defend.

"The task is massive, to score more than three goals against Real Madrid, it is not easy. The result in the first leg is not the perfect one but at the same time we are here, it is a football game, everything can happen.

"We have to create as much momentum as possible and do a good game for the talented players we have and defend well."

Man City v Real Madrid (Tue, 20:00 GMT)

    Manchester City

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola on whether he thinks his players believe they can get past Real Madrid: "After 10 years you have to convince some of my players about their beliefs? They know me quite well. Every single game we try. This will be no exception.

"We are not the same group we had for many years but, at the same time, it is an incredible experience and an incredible opportunity to try it."
