Carl Piergianni came off the bench to head a late winner as Stevenage beat Huddersfield in League One.

The decisive moment came after 85 minutes, when Harvey White's free-kick was delivered into the middle and Piergianni got up at the back post to guide the ball past the stationary Lee Nicholls.

Such was his impact, and the pattern of the game itself, Piergianni was named man of the match inside the ground, even though he had only arrived eight minutes prior to his winner.

New Stevenage signing Matt Phillips had the best chance in the first half.

The touch of the former Oxford man took him slightly left of goal but the shot still needed saving, Nicholls pushing it away.

Bali Mumba had a good opportunity for the Terriers but despite finding space in the box, he hooked his shot wide of the Boro goal.

Nothing much happened in the second half until the goal, but Huddersfield should have equalised on 90 minutes when Cameron Ashia pounced on a mistake but he lifted his shot over the bar.
