Brentford maintained their stunning unbeaten run as they came from behind to earn a point and end Aston Villa's hopes of a first Premier League home win this season.

The Bees came into this game as one of four unbeaten sides in the top flight this season and are now eight Premier League matches without defeat stretching back to last season.

Unai Emery's side had lost their two previous games at Villa Park and they made the worst possible start when Yehor Yarmoliuk fired the Bees into a 10th-minute lead.

Just 88 seconds later, Nicolas Jackson scored for the second game running to pull Villa level.

Both sides looked content with a point until the second half sprung into life late on.

Villa captain John McGinn thought he'd secured the three points when his strike took a massive deflection off Kristoffer Ajer before flying beyond goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher.

But, once again, the response time was almost instant.

Jaidon Anthony teed up defender Ajer, who made up for aiding McGinn's goal by slotting home the equaliser.

Villa's home woes continue

Unai Emery post-match interview - Aston Villa vs Brentford

Before today's game, Emery issued a rallying cry for his side to improve their home form.

The cry was not answered as he'd have wanted.

Coming into this one, Villa Park was yet to see a home Premier League victory this season - and that remains the case after a frustrating draw.

Emery refused to use the redevelopment of the North Stand as an excuse for their home slump but it is clear the atmosphere has understandably dampened.

On the pitch, there were positives for Emery to take, especially after the defeat by Nottingham Forest in their last outing on home soil.

Heads could have dropped when Brentford took the lead but the quick response showed the character in the side.

And Villa thought they had secured that elusive home win when McGinn struck in the second half, but it wasn't to be.

Villa's first point at home this season is something to build on against a very capable Brentford side but they'll have to improve when they welcome leaders Manchester City on 24 October.

Keith Andrews post-match interview - Aston Villa vs Brentford

It's another point on the board for impressive Brentford as they climb up to fourth in the league table.

Keith Andrews' side remain alongside Manchester City, Liverpool and Everton as the unbeaten sides this year.

In fact, the Bees have the longest unbeaten run in the top flight, with eight without loss.

Brentford will be disappointed with how quickly they let their lead slip but a point at Villa Park is one they will happily take, especially after staring defeat in the face in the second half.

Andrews will be thrilled with the desire from his side to get back into the game and they got their reward.

But with four draws in their opening six games, Andrews will be desperate to see them turned into wins - starting with next Saturday's home tie against Liverpool.
