Highlights: Arsenal survive scare to come from behind to beat Leeds
Arsenal produced an excellent second-half fightback to put their title defence back on track, as they marked their return to Premier League action with a hard-fought victory over Leeds United.
Having begun their reign as champions with four consecutive wins, conceding just a single goal, the Gunners were left to stew over a humbling 3-0 loss to Brighton during the three-week international break.
Terrifically organised in defence and brave in attack, Leeds were fully deserving of their opener once it arrived 10 minutes after half-time.
James Justin sent the travelling support into raptures, in an away fixture they have not celebrated a league victory in since May 2003, when he slammed in from Gabriel Gudmundsson's pull-back.
Arsenal appeared uninspired and unsettled but found a much-needed quick response when Riccardo Calafiori converted at close range after being teed up by Ben White.
Accompanied by an immediate triple change by Mikel Arteta, which included the introduction of £75m summer addition Bruno Guimaraes, the atmosphere at a restless Emirates Stadium was transformed.
Guimaraes completed the comeback eight minutes later with an assured finish from the edge of the penalty area, rounding off a wonderful, free-flowing move by the home side.
That meant Arsenal closed the gap to leaders Manchester City, who remain top on goal difference before travelling to Anfield to face Liverpool on Sunday (16:30 BST).

Mikel Arteta post match interview - Arsenal vs Leeds United
In contrast to the tumult and change afflicting their main title rivals this season, Arsenal's position as favourites to win back-to-back league trophies for the first time since 1935 is founded in the club's stability.
Already the current longest-serving manager in the English top flight following Pep Guardiola's departure at Manchester City, Arteta would surpass a decade in charge of the Gunners should he see out the new contract which he signed this week.
While Arsenal were far from the level Arteta has come to expect from his team on Saturday, their revival over the final half hour meant they have still lost back-to-back Premier League games only once under the Spaniard since the start of 2024.
The Arsenal boss will now hope this recovery, over one of the league's most in-form outfits, will mark a return to the performances which preceded Brighton.
The hosts showed early intent but struggled for rhythm during a frustrating first half, in which their confident opponents created the better chances.
David Raya produced fine saves from strikes by marauding wing-backs Jayden Bogle and Gudmundsson, while Kai Havertz' tame header stood as Arsenal's only attempt on target by half-time.
But Calafiori's equaliser released the tension, and Arsenal's superior squad depth ultimately told as Guimaraes proved hugely influential following his introduction.
Martin Odegaard should have made the final scoreline more comfortable but failed to finish from Declan Rice's pass into the six-yard box in the closing stages.
Daniel Farke post match interview - Arsenal vs Leeds United
It has been an excellent start to the season for Leeds, and the positive feeling around the team will not be harmed by this defeat.
While there will be disappointment at the result, a five-game unbeaten league start - the club's first in the top flight since 2001 - has given Daniel Farke's side the perfect platform from which to press on from their 14th-place finish last season.
Fortified in defence by the summer arrivals of goalkeeper James Trafford and centre-back Tarik Muharemovic, they had still conceded a joint-league low of three goals after a first hour in which they had bettered the champions.
The Gunners were caught offside four times in the first 16 minutes, with White twice guilty of mistiming his run in attempting to beat a well-drilled Leeds back line.
Leeds' tenacity in defence was personified by midfielder Ao Tanaka's refusal to yield to Bukayo Saka's trickery before ending an Arsenal attack with a disciplined tackle during the first half.
Having been denied on several occasions by Raya, who also had to scramble back to keep out a looping Ethan Ampadu header after failing to clear a cross, Leeds looked well-placed to end their long wait for a win at Arsenal following their breakthrough.
But Farke's side ultimately could not reassert themselves once the momentum flipped.
