Chesterfield moved up to sixth in League Two after a first-half goal from Sam Curtis gave them a 1-0 win against Gillingham.
The result made it just one defeat in nine games for the Spireites, who began the game outside the play-off places.
Chesterfield goalkeeper Zach Hemming got down smartly to make a save from Ronan Hale at his near post before the home side scored what proved to be the winner in the 16th minute.
Sil Swinkels got his head to a Liam Mandeville corner and Curtis fired into the net from close range.
Tom Pearce tested Glenn Morris with a low drive which the keeper turned away and the hosts went close to adding a second goal when Tom Naylor saw his header cleared off the line by Max Clark.
Dylan Duffy also threatened, firing in a shot which was well saved by Morris.
Gillingham's best chance fell to Bradley Dack, whose header following a corner cleared the crossbar with Hemming stranded off his line.
