Cambridge and Colchester shared an entertaining 1-1 League Two draw.

Cambridge made the perfect start with a goal inside three minutes. Shane McLoughlin's cross was headed away to Ben Knight and his shot from the edge of the box was diverted in by team-mate Kell Watts.

They might have added to their lead, with James Gibbons blasting over the angle of post and bar and Mamadou Jobe stabbing over as a corner fell to him.

Instead Colchester were level after 30 minutes when Owura Edwards outpaced Gibbons on the left and pulled back to Kyreece Lisbie, whose deflected shot looped up and was nodded in by Jack Payne.

Cambridge could not have come closer to regaining the advantage six minutes before half-time when Knight teed up James Brophy, who hit the inside of the post.

Colchester pushed for a winner after half-time.

Jake Eastwood made a strong low save to deny Samson Tovide, substitute Romeo Akachukwu rattled a post, then 10 minutes from time Eastwood tipped over Payne's long-range free-kick.
