Dull, boring. Uninspiring performance from Liverpool. No threat or shots at goal. Can't see this Liverpool team scoring 3 goals next week at Anfield, hopefully it will be Slot's last game in charge of Liverpool.

  3. 'We were lucky only losing two nil'published at 22:38 BST

    FT: Paris St-Germain 2-0 Liverpool

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Arne Slot speaking to TNT Sports, on reflections of the game: "If you reflect on the whole game I think we are lucky with only losing two nil. The first goal felt hard. I think it was very good for us we are still in the tie, we can bring them to Anfield and we know how good Anfield can be for us."

On the game between Bayern and Madrid: "I watched the game yesterday between Bayern Munich and Real Madrid. You need performances like that, you need a hardworking team that do everything against a team like PSG. When we needed Alisson Becker he was there for us. He played a good game today."

On whether they created enough chances: "Yes and no, yes because we want to create much more chances, no because there was not a lot to create for us. We tried many times to get them high, but they were able to play through us when we went man-to-man. I think that happened in the second half as well. There were a few times with players in promising positions."

  4. 'Liverpool's confidence is at an all-time low'published at 22:36 BST

    FT: Paris St-Germain 2-0 Liverpool

    Stephen Warnock
Former Liverpool defender on MOTD: Uefa Champions League

Arne Slot is not going to get sacked for losing 2-0 at PSG, one of the best teams in Europe, but the defeats are stacking up, and there's the danger there could be more damage next week.

It feels like Liverpool's confidence is at an all time low. We've seen some memorable European comebacks at Anfield before now - from 3-0 down against Barcelona in 2019 to win the second leg 4-0, for example - but it feels like they are a million miles away from doing anything like that at the moment.

You can hear more from Warnock on MOTD: Uefa Champions League at 22:40 BST on BBC One and the BBC Sport website and app.

  5. 'Liverpool didn't come to play football tonight'published at 22:33 BST

    FT: Paris St-Germain 2-0 Liverpool

    Julien Laurens
ESPN journalist on BBC Radio 5 Live at Parc des Princes

Liverpool didn't come here to play football tonight. This is not Liverpool. I don't care if you're in good form or not in good form. You still have good players to play better than what we saw.

Three shots in 90 minutes - the three they had were all on the edge of the box. You can play the back five as long as you come here to play football, and not just park the bus.

  6. Reds have to be 'spot on' in the second leg - Van Dijkpublished at 22:31 BST

    FT: Paris St-Germain 2-0 Liverpool

    Liverpool

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk, speaking to TNT Sports, On Ibrahima Konate's tackle: "A clear good tackle, so it is not a coincidence that this should be disallowed."

On Giorgi Mamardashvili's performance being crucial: "Hopefully, very crucial. Last year we played a game here which we should have lost. Alisson's best game of his career, but we couldn't get the job done at Anfield."

On the second leg: "We have to be absolutely spot on. Hopefully, our fans can play a big part in that. Our fans are the backbone of the club, and hopefully they can be there for us."

On PSG having a rest week: "We have to focus on ourselves and that is the only thing we are going to do."

  8. 'Why do we have VAR?'published at 22:29 BST

    FT: Barcelona 0-2 Atletico Madrid

    Barcelona

Barcelona manager Hansi Flick: "We lost 2-0 but we have a good chance in Madrid. We don't give up, we have a chance still.

"I don't know [about the red card], I'm not sure how much he [Pau Cubarsi] touched him. The ball was behind him.

"When the [Atleti] player touched the ball [at a goal-kick] it's clear, why not VAR? It's unbelievable.

"We all make mistakes, it's normal, but this situation. Why do we have VAR? I cannot understand. Normally it would be penalty and a red card. Double yellow is a red.

"Of course we believe [we can do it], second half we played well with one player less."

Credit has to be given to Atleti's incredible defensive effort. Yes, they've been playing against 10 men, but they've worked extremely hard and dealt with Lamine Yamal's constant threat.

What a night we have to look forward to at the Metropolitano next week.

  11. Playing back five 'sends out the wrong signals'published at 22:23 BST

    FT: Paris St-Germain 2-0 Liverpool

    Paul Robinson
Former England goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live at Parc des Princes

That was our champions against their champions. Our champions were nowhere near...

Obviously, Liverpool are not in a good run of form and the confidence is very low. They are a team which is creaking, hence why they played a back five. Soon as they played a back five, it sends out the wrong signals for me.

It is not playing to Liverpool's strengths and it is defending their weaknesses. In Hakimi, Mendes, Kvaratskhelia, Doue - Arne Slot knew the problems his team would have in the wide areas.

  12. 'Hopefully we can be better'published at 22:21 BST

    FT: Paris St-Germain 2-0 Liverpool

    Liverpool

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk, speaking to TNT Sports: "Tough, tough work. Always expected. I think we defended with a lot of bodies around the box. Unfortunately, the first goal is a deflection. We get some small moments on the break where we could have done better.

"But now it's a quick turnaround, and we have Fulham waiting for us as well."

On playing with a back five: "They always move around everywhere. We have to communicate and follow your man and take risks in that sense. As well and wait for the right moment to win the ball. Hopefully, we can be much better, especially possession at Anfield.

  13. 'Games come thick and fast'published at 22:16 BST

    Steven Gerrard
Former England and Liverpool captain on TNT Sports

That's part of being a Liverpool player, games come thick and fast. They need to be ready for Fullham because they will come to Anfield wanting something.

Recover, reset and get full focus on Fullham.

  14. 'It could have been much worse'published at 22:14 BST

    FT: Paris St-Germain 2-0 Liverpool

    Stephen Warnock
Former Liverpool defender on MOTD: Uefa Champions League

It feels like there is a huge gulf between the two teams. Liverpool changed their system to go with three at the back and they were set up to try to stop PSG but even sitting in like this, they were nowhere near it - they have been pulled apart at the back.

It's only 2-0 but the scoreline is the only positive for Liverpool to take into the second leg, and that was because PSG weren't clinical enough - it could have been much worse for Liverpool.

You can hear more from Warnock on MOTD: Uefa Champions League at 22:40 BST on BBC One and the BBC Sport website and app.

    Paul Robinson
Former England goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live at Parc des Princes

Liverpool were exposed far too many times defensively. The goalkeeper, Giorgi Mamardashvili, was man of the match for me. On that performance, there is a lot of work to do against a very, very good PSG team.

    FT: Paris St-Germain 2-0 Liverpool

    Julien Laurens
ESPN journalist on BBC Radio 5 Live at Wembley

I think PSG will look back at the game and think OK there should be of been three, four or five easily.

The stats are such an embarrassing reading if you're a Liverpool player or fan.

    Liverpool had no answers tonight.

    FT: Paris St-Germain 2-0 Liverpool

Liverpool didn't look cohesive in that system and soon as you go to a back five it stinks of being submissive and that you are going to sit off teams.
