West Ham boss Graham Potter, speaking to BBC Sport: "I was happy with our performance in the first half. We did a lot of things well, we quietened the crowd. Second half we started a bit slowly.
"The lift you give to the home team was too big for us. An uncomfortable afternoon for us. Certainly second half we need to look at and improve.
"The goals change the games, especially in an atmosphere like this. The goals we need to do better with.
"The second half was not good enough. We need to get better and improve and understand. The scoreline reflects poorly on us.
"For me it was the basics of football - defending in your box. We need to do better."

This win means absolutely everything to the city and everybody associated with the club, especially when you consider the journey that we have been on. We went down to League One. Man City boss Pep Guardiola speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live: "[Perfect start?] First half was good, second half was not as good as we thought but it is normal in this part of the season.
"It is just the first game my friends. Last game at Stamford Bridge we won 2-0 and were top of the league in September and October but then look what happened. So it is just the first game and it is good to start but there are many things still we have to improve."
On Reijnders: "Not just today in Palermo he played really good. he is a typical player we will need in the Premier League. He is an incredible, big signing for us. His work ethic, a holding midfielder occupies a lot of spaces and then after the control with the ball and his movements, and then he is trying to get in behind and score - really pleased."
On the goalkeeper situation: "I'm so happy for James. for the fact that he is an academy player and he is a City fan and made his debut in the Premier League here. He played really good and I'm really pleased. I like when the young players in the academy can play for Man City, It's really, really good."

In Tijjani Reijnders and Rayan Cherki, Manchester City had two players score on their Premier League debut in the same match for the first time since August 2007 - Geovanni and Rolando Bianchi against West Ham. A very different era for City.
After Reijnders and Cherki scored, City have now had 14 players who have scored on their Premier League debuts. Only Chelsea and Man Utd have more.

Wolves boss Vitor Pereira speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live: "Of course in our minds and in our hearts we have Jota and his brother. We tried to do our best to get a good result but it was not possible because we faced a strong team. They are technically strong, individually strong, individually strong, tactically strong and with a lot of options.
"I thing we did some good things in my opinion. We played with bravery, tried to score goals and we had our chances to score. In the end each time we committed a mistake they punished us with a goal, and every time they made a mistake, we missed the goal. This was the difference between one team and the other team.
"Looking at us we did good things, showed good spirit, ambition to score not just defending and trying to push them and force mistakes. We need to keep doing the good things, improve the bad things and wait for the club to buy new players because we need new quality to help.
"If you have a lot of money to spend, millions and millions, then the window is easy. It's easy to recommend the players and to go for them. For us it is not easy. The club know since last season the positions we need and they say to me that they are working to bring at least three or four players to balance the squad."

A quick reality check. City were top early doors last season and Liverpool ran away with it. Give it 10 games and we'll see how the season is shaping up.

Manchester City have now won 14 of their last 15 opening day games in the Premier League, scoring 41 goals in total.
Today is their second-largest opening day win in Premier League history, after their 5-0 victory against West Ham United in August 2019.

Wolves manager Vitor Pereira speaking to BBC MOTD:
"We faced a strong team. Technically strong, individual quality they have better options. We did things well in my opinion, we were brave, we didn't go in just to defend - I don't believe in that kind of game - we had some chances. If you didn't watch the game and just see the result it's like they created a lot of chances and we created nothing and it's not true. Every time we made a mistake they scored. We created maybe four chances to score and nothing. Of course they have a lot of merit and quality but in my opinion the result doesn't express what happened on the field.
"We scored first, an offside, I don't know if he's in a clear offside position I didn't see. But if you score first it's different. We conceded the first goal we were missing some aggressiveness in the middle and they have the quality to create this kind of chance. The second goal we offered it to them - building the play in the middle was not the plan but I understand everyone can make mistakes - even me - the way is to correct.
"In the second half we had a big chance for 2-1 and after a counter attack they get the third goal. This is the kind of team that each mistake they punish us with the quality. We did some good things. The spirit that I want is this spirit - we tried to be on the pitch with ambition and trying to score a goal. We created some good chances, some good movements, defending sometimes at a good level but sometimes when you press between they lines they score. I will take the good things with me and we'll correct the things that need to be corrected."
Need more signings? "Yes - the club knows that we need maybe three signings with quality to add something more. This league is a very difficult league and we need more solutions. This is the time to make an offer and to help the team. We need help so I hope the club can help us."
Premier League
Chief executive officer of the Premier League Richard Masters, speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live about racism in football: “No Premier League footballer should ever have to, in their workplace or online, suffer that sort of abuse.
“It is important that we keep saying that. We have offered our support to Antoine, as has everybody.
“I think everyone can see the protocol is being overseen and been affected yesterday.
“Once Antoine had made it clear to the match official about what had happened. Anthony Taylor brought the game to a halt and talked to both managers and spoke directly to the stadium’s security official.
“That allowed them to identify the individual and escort the person off the premises and I understand he was detained by the police. That’s the way it should work.
“It is a problem for society. It leaks into football, and it shouldn’t happen in a football stadium. It shouldn’t happen online.
“It makes people like me and other football people in charge of the game think twice about what else we can do to ensure that these things don’t happen in the future."

Manchester City midfielder Tijjani Reijnders speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "It's a great start, very happy with an assist and a goal and a very good win. It is a great start and we have to keep going now.
"I saw the intensity and it is pretty hard but it is nice to play in the Premier League and to score on my debut is always nice.
"They [Wolves] put good pressure on us and I think that gave us more air to breathe and to play our game.
"Erling Haaland is always a target that you can reach and he is always ready to score a goal. When he got the ball I knew he would score."
"Even if you start on the bench, you can bring something new to the team. The first game of the season is always difficult so good to get off to a good start.
"I'm always trying to find space in the box and work to give assists. My type of game is to be a box-to-box player and help the team with goals and assists."

"First half was good second half was not. Normal in this part of the season but they were better. We had short preparation. We always struggle here [Molineux] and two years ago we lost and last season a late John Stones goal. Always tough so really pleased for the result especially.
"We were good in that situation. We can not deny that helps when you score two. The tempo, the rhythm from the beginning was good."
On Tijjani Reijnders: "Really good. Lovely guy and impact from day one. His pace, he can help with the holding midfield. He can make runs inside the pockets and the spaces that sometimes we allow defenders to create. At Milan he was exceptional and the national team. We knew he is a top signing for the coming years for City."
On Rayan Cherki: "Quality in the final third, in the small spaces it's unique. His creativity is excellent, the rhythm that we need. There are many years and games where opponents will be tight. We need quality, special quality in the final third and pure talent and Rayan has it."
On fresh crop of City players: "We have Manu [Akanji], Nathan [Ake] and [Ilkay] Gundogan - players that created that legacy but of course we have changed after last season with many injuries and problems. Fresh energy this season it's quite similar to when I first arrived. We had a lot of players who came when I first arrived - Kyle Walker, Leroy Sane, Bernardo Silva - they were outstanding and now the club has to refresh for the next years and be consistent."
On James Trafford: "It's a lovely story - came through the academy young. He did a really good game, good save, a big presence in the goal. He made an incredible job at Burnley with Vinny [Kompany]. In the end the club decided to bring him back and I'm pretty sure he will sleep good tonight."

Wolves have lost nine of their last 10 Premier League meetings with Manchester City (W1), although their one victory in this period did come at Molineux early in the season, winning 2-1 in September 2023 under Gary O’Neil.
Across the last five Premier League campaigns, Manchester City have won the joint-most games (4) and scored the most goals (14) of any side when facing Wolves at Molineux (W4 D0 L1 F14 A5).
This will be the ninth consecutive Premier League campaign that Manchester City have started with an away game, while they’ve won seven of the previous eight (L1), scoring 19 goals and only conceding twice across those matches.
Man City have won their opening league game in 13 of the last 14 seasons, with the exception being a 1-0 loss at Tottenham Hotspur in 2021-22.

No player provided more assists in France’s Ligue 1 last season than new Man City signing Rayan Cherki (11). The Frenchman was also involved in 13 goals in his last 15 league appearances for Lyon (5 goals, 8 assists).
