No club is too big to go down and let's face it Spurs have relied on other clubs being even worse than them for a few seasons now. Perhaps relegation would give them the boot up the proverbial they need.

For the record, Opta say that it is 99.91% certain that Wolves will be relegated, while Burnley have a 99.62% chance of going down.

  4. Opta still has West Ham as heavy favourites to go downpublished at 13:15 GMT

OK, we did say we have had a lot of messages on Tottenham, didn't we?

It's only fair to say at this point that there are other clubs in the Premier League currently staring down the barrel of relegation.

Only three points separate Leeds United in 15th and West Ham in 18th - the third and final relegation place.

But yes, Tottenham are just one point above the drop zone, while both West Ham and 17th-placed Nottingham Forest are level on 28 points.

Despite the fight for survival looking like it's going to go down to the wire, Opta still has the Hammers as heavy favourites to go down from these sides, even after their 1-0 win over Fulham last night.

Nuno Espirito Santo's side have a 52.72% chance of playing in the Championship next season, with Forest the next most likely at 29.92%.

Strugglers Spurs and Leeds both have just over an 8% chance of relegation, but things could change in the coming weeks, with many of these sides coming up against each other before the season is up.

Issue with Spurs is that the players face no consequences - every failure is blamed on coaches, Levy, the owners etc. They are coasting and know they will get an easy ride. Look at Romero playing the fans on social media - diverting criticism.

A team that is playing very badly and an inexperienced pl manager. The ultimate relegation combo. I don't think we will win another game this season.

    Steve

It’s a mindset. I’m a Manchester United fan and after years of repeating mistakes I’m still doubtful on our situation. It’s natural. It’s the same with Spurs. Everyone is expecting them to stay up because it’s Spurs, it’s unthinkable. But wow, they're in trouble.

What a week it has been for Rob Edwards and Wolves.

It may ultimately prove to be too little too late but two wins in five days mean that they have given themselves a chance in the battle for survival.

And while Wolves are battling, the recent form of Tottenham appears to show that Igor Tudor's side are not.

Edwards' basement club have won two home games in five days, Spurs are yet to win a home game in 2026.

Tudor may have only recently taken the helm at Spurs, but the players he inherited have won just twice on home soil in the Premier League all season and have just three wins in a year at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Wolves have three league wins at Molineux in 2026.

If only the season had started in January, eh Wolves fans?

Steve, we mentioned earlier that 38 points was the projected target this season to secure Premier League survival.

Tottenham currently have 29 points, so nine more points needed.

So yes, those games against Wolves, Nottingham Forest and Leeds could be very important.

Quick spoiler alert - maybe go and make a brew or something before the next post drops...

  9. Summerville proves he could be West Ham's saviourpublished at 12:56 GMT

As the travelling West Ham supporters descended into pandemonium at Craven Cottage, Crysencio Summerville stood still, arms outstretched and sporting an enormous smile.

The Dutchman had every reason to smile as he celebrated his fifth Premier League goal of the season to help the Hammers to a vital 1-0 victory against Fulham.

His 65th-minute strike was enough to continue West Ham’s resurgent quest for survival - on a night when they gained two points on 17th-place Nottingham Forest.

The forward - who struggled for both form and confidence after joining from Leeds United in August 2024 - has now managed more goals in his last 10 appearances for the club (seven), than he did in his first 38 (one).

But it's not only Summerville who is finding his feet as the business end of the season looms - West Ham are, too.

The Hammers have now accumulated 14 of their 28 points this season in their past eight Premier League games.

Such an impressive run for Nuno Espirito Santo's side means that if they defeat Manchester City when they return to Premier League action on 14 March, they will be out of the relegation zone for the first time since December.

It's hard to imagine how that West Ham team of 2002-03 managed to get relegated, considering the quality of their squad.

Paulo Di Canio, Jermaine Defoe, Joe Cole, Trevor Sinclair, David James, Les Ferdinand...

Sadly for the Hammers, Bolton Wanderers, who beat them to safety, had a certain Jay Jay Okocha.

The question is, which teams in the current relegation battle have the stature of players needed to lead them to safety?

  13. 38 points to survive? Why relegation battle could be toughest in a decadepublished at 12:36 GMT

    Ask Me Anything

This season's Premier League relegation battle is shaping up to be one of the toughest in decades.

No team in the last nine campaigns has earned 36 points and been relegated, yet after 29 rounds of games, the latest Opta projections suggest that 18th place is currently set to finish on 37 points, meaning 38 points would ensure survival.

In the 30 Premier League seasons that have had 38 games a season for each club, 36 points would have ensured survival 60% of the time.

That rate of survival increases to 80% for 38 points, 90% for 40 points and 100% for 43 or more points.

West Ham hold the record for the team relegated with the most points in the 20-team era. In the 2002-03 season, the Hammers picked up 42 points but were still relegated.

The safety thresholds for the last two seasons have been significantly lower due to newly-promoted teams struggling in the Premier League. The last two seasons have seen 26 and 27 points be enough to seal safety, respectively.

Only once prior to the 2023-24 season has a total below 30 points been enough to seal survival.

Nottingham Forest were the ones celebrating a point at the end of a frantic second half at Manchester City, but could well have taken home all three as the clock ticked into added time.

Elliot Anderson, who has been linked with a move to City in the summer transfer window, swung in a corner which was met by Ryan Yates at the near post, but the substitute thumped his header the wrong side of the post.

Forest needed to get something out of the game with West Ham beating Fulham and Anderson's equaliser ensured they did not drop into the bottom three but are now perilously close to it.

Despite the unlikely point, Forest remain winless in their last six league games, while their new manager - ex-Wolves boss Vitor Pereira - is yet to taste victory as a top-flight manager in 13 attempts this season.

  17. Summerville strike heaps pressure on rivalspublished at 12:21 GMT

    Fulham 0-1 West Ham

Crysencio Summerville scored the only goal of the game as West Ham boosted their hopes of Premier League survival with a hard-fought win against Fulham at Craven Cottage.

The Dutchman pounced on a lapse in communication between Bernd Leno and Calvin Bassey shortly after the hour mark to earn the struggling Hammers only a seventh win of the Premier League season - albeit their fourth in the last eight matches.

After Nottingham Forest's 2-2 draw with Manchester City, the three points moved Nuno Espirito Santo's current side level on points with his former club.

It really now is game on, but could both West Ham and Forest yet leapfrog either Leeds, Tottenham or both to survive in the top flight for another season?

Bottom two Wolves and Burnley have both shown fight over recent weeks, but remain well adrift of safety.

Wolves are 12 points below 17th-placed Nottingham Forest with eight games to play, while Burnley are nine points behind Forest with a maximum 27 left to play for.

Anything can happen in the remaining weeks - teams higher up the table, such as Crystal Palace and Brighton, could yet be sucked into the relegation battle.

But it looks like one from Leeds United, Tottenham, Nottingham Forest and West Ham will join Wolves and Burnley in the Championship next season.

Just three points separate Leeds in 15th and West Ham, who are third from bottom and occupy the final relegation place.

The Hammers last night heaped pressure on their rivals with a 1-0 win at in-form Fulham - their fourth victory in eight league matches.

Nottingham Forest's surprise point at Manchester City ensured they remain 17th, but are only out of the bottom three on goal difference.

And Spurs, who are 16th in the Premier League table, go into tonight's match at home to Crystal Palace just one point above the relegation zone.

While the title chatter may be over and done with, we aren't going anywhere just yet.

From one end of the Premier League table, we're heading to the other.

There were some significant results at the top, but maybe those at the bottom had even bigger implications in the grand scheme of things...

A positive result for West Ham and a big point for Nottingham Forest have piled huge pressure on Tottenham Hotspur, who host Crystal Palace this evening.

All of that to come and more as we make our way into Thursday afternoon.
