'Conspiracy' to grab farmers' land
Sri Lankan authorities are accused of trying to cover up the truth behind the killing of civilians in the south.

Association of Parents of those Arrested in Ranminithenna (APAR) said a powerful political hand is using militant group to kick them out from their agricultural lands.

Six civilians in Ranminithenna are kept under Detention Orders (DO) after an attack on Sri Lanka Army (SLA) camp in Thalgasmankada.

At least five farmers were found killed in the area after the attack.

'Sinhala sections' involved

Defence Affairs spokesman, Minister Keheliya Rambukwella, earlier told BBC Sandeshaya that the possiblity of Tamil Tigers attacking the civilians in the south could not be ruled out.

However, Army Commander Lt. General Sarath Fonseka has said that "various Sinhala sections in the south supporting the LTTE cause" were responsible for the attacks.

WP Piyasena, whose two sons were arrested after the killings, said his grandchildren are now even reluctant to go to schools as a result of the arrest.

Both sons, he said, has taken clearance from the Navy authorities for fishing on that particular day they are accused of killing the civilians.

Severely beaten

Manel Sriyakanthi said her husband was severely beaten by the police asking him to admit that they were responsible for the crime.

Sri Lanka Army (SLA) requested farmers stop cultivating their lands to according to the residents in the area.

DH Suneeta, a mother of six, said her husband was taken away by the security forces who raided their home late at night.

"One of my children is a Buddhist monk," a weeping Suneetha said adding that her husband stopped farming after the SLA warning.
