Claymore attack in Yala
Brigadier Udaya Nanayakakara
SLA says a civilian was killed and another sustained injuries in the attack
Security officials in Sri Lanka say a civilian was killed and another sustained injuries in a claymore mine attack in Yala National Park.

Military spokesman Brigadier Uadaya Nanayakkara said the attack happened at Katagamuva, inside the national park, on Saturday evening.

Accusing the Tamil Tigers, the spokesman said nothing is confirmed as police and security forces are continuing investigations.

"A crew cab belong to a construction party got caught in the explosion," Brigadier Nanayakakra told the BBC.

The engineer in the crew was unhurt in the attack, he added.

The attack comes days after five civilians were hacked to death within two days in Ranminithenna, Thissamaharama.

Sri Lanka government has taken measures to improve security in the area after residents called for better protection.

Minister Keheliya Rambukwella told BBC Sandehaya on Saturday that the investigations do not rule out all avenues including the involvement of Tamil Tigers.

"However, a local dispute is also a possibility," he added.
