Wildlife officers attacked

Speaking to Sandeshaya, Director of Wildlife Ananda Wijesuriya said: “a vehicle belonging to the department got caught in the crossfire but no serious damage has been reported”.

“Incident happened in Yala and I still do not know whether it has a connection with Thalgasmankada attack”, he added.

“Because of the bad weather and darkness we are unable to visit the area and no body knows what is actually happened there or happening at the moment” Devappriya said.

“People should not worry about visiting Kataragama as the incident took place more than fifty miles from Kataragama,” he pointed out.

Media Centre for National Security said that the attackers are those LTTE cadres who are stranded in the Jungles in Ampara district after their debacle in Thoppigala.
