CRAZY VIDEO OF STUNTING BICYCLE ACTION AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS PAGE!!

After being given a final five mins of riding, everyone left the park and shifted a few miles east to Glasgow's Sauchiehall Street, where the first ever Scottish BMX Awards were held in the dingy basement of Nice n' Sleazys. The Master of Ceremonies for the night (and decked out in a full dinner jacket), was the Sweaty Yeti, and a better man for the job there never could be.

Here's what the big man had to say about the whole thing:

Chorley!!!!!

How much of a hand did you have in picking the categories/winners?
50% We wanted to have some 'serious, proper' awards, along with an injection of humour, which I hope went down well.

What did Gogo whisper in your ear upon receiving the award for 'BMXer with the worst attitude'?
£50 for a gobble, £2 tae Southsea.

What did the winners win?
Numerous trinkets and good luck charms provided by the Scottish Romanian Re-settlement Organisation. Plus BMX stuff kindly donated by a number of parties, whose generosity is greatly appreciated.

Were you nervous before hand?
Yes, I had been drinking heavily on the Thursday and Friday nights and I was also riding at the Jam, so physically I was not at the top of my game. This exhaustion contributed to the nerves. Once I got started though it was ok.

How much did you sweat?
A hell of a lot. See last answer - you do the math!

Did you have to have a kebab to settle your nerves?
Yes, but in the long run prolonged kebab consumption will have the opposite effect of settling nerves.

Why did you leave early?

I had got as drunk as I thought I could in the circumstances and, to be perfectly honest, I was fearing for the well being of my internal organs. I like to think I am big enough and mature enough to know when to call it a day, although I think this may well have been the first time I have acted in such a responsible manner. Wheelp!!

Thank you, Yeti

By this point everyone was in 'high spirits'. I was actually so lost in the moment that the rapier-like wit behind Tom's nun outfit (his surname being 'Nunn') only dawned on me the following day. All I could think of was how much he reminded me of Brian's mum in The Life of Brian.

REEEEET!

Before the awards were given out there were screenings of numerous Scottish BMX videos, which were all belters. Big round of applause to all who stayed up late putting those together.

Purely belter

Yeti then handed out the awards and much salt was shaken. There were a fair few categories (results at the bottom) but the main one was big Dave Sowerby (interview coming soon, honest!) who thoroughly deserved the title 'Scottish BMXer of the Year'. Well done, Dave.

Anyway, after a while things got messy. Really messy. I remember trying to say something to Rachel (Grant's fiance) about how we're all a disgrace, but not being able to talk. Those that know me will know that this is a rare occurrence.

At this point I was dragged off to another pub by a slutty cowgirl who was dressed as Finest Rob. We heard stories over the next few days - Gogo had apparently went out dressed as an old man and woke up dressed as a robot, Tom and Grant had battered each other, and so on. Whatever. It was just awesome. As Grant said 'the riding was good but the jive was better'.

If you click on the pic of Rob (below) you'll be able to watch his vid of the evening. Marvellous job Rob - well done. There are also some more pics, including one of Yeti in his suit. Thanks to Grant for the 'party pics' and thanks to everyone else who's helped by sending in pics/interviews.

Can't wait 'till next year :-D
