Article from the Herald newspaper 28th August 2007
Eidann, Glasgow, age 15
After reading "Waking up to the danger of junk sleep" by Alison Chiesa, an article in The Herald on the 28th August about children not getting enough rest, I took a moment to think about how much sleep I am getting at night.
Before reading this article, I did not know what the effects of not getting enough sleep were. One of the effects mentioned was poor performance at school. The article contains a lot of interesting and somewhat shocking statistics and information. For example, a study of 1000 12 to 16 year olds found that 30% were getting just four to seven hours sleep on a school night, which came as a surprise to me. I had always thought that I was one of the few children who were not getting enough sleep each night, but as the article reveals, I am just one of many.
I think that it is important that people read this article, because whether you are a parent or a child, it is important that you know all the facts. The article makes you think and has a very clear message. I have reconsidered my sleeping habits since reading the article, and I think that after reading it, you will want to as well.
