THE FRUITCAKE HAS GONE MOULDY!

BET YOU THOUGHT YOU'D SEEN THE LAST OF ME, EH! NO CHANCE, ALTHOUGH WITH ALL THE BUGS AND VIRUSES (not to mention bird flu!) THAT HAVE BEEN GOING AROUND, I THOUGHT I WAS CLOSE TO MEETING MY MAKER!!
ANYWAY, I'M BACK TO BORE YOU SILLY WITH USELESS COMMENTS AND THEREFORE GIVE YOU THE CHANCE TO TWITTER AWAY AND MAKE DISPARAGING REMARKS ABOUT MY NUTTY-NESS!!!!
I'M NOT TOO PROUD (SILLY MAYBE!) TO ADMIT THAT THE FRUITCAKE MAY HAVE GONE A BIT OFF OVER THE FESTIVE PERIOD AND THE NUTS MIGHT HAVE GONE A BIT SOFT BUT I AM ON MY WAY BACK TO FULL NUTTYNESS SO WITH A BIT OF INPUT FROM SOME OF YOU OTHER NUTS OUT THERE I'M SURE WE CAN BRING THINGS DOWN TO A WHOLE NEW LEVEL!!!
SEE YOU AROUND, FRUITCAKES!!

Life goes on!

Well the first week of 2007 is nearly over; the christmas decorations have come down, everyone has finally stopped wishing each other a Happy New Year, and the buses are back to normal ( although the same can't be said for the ferries!!)

We don't get much in the way of New Year Sales in the shops as we don't have many High Street names here only Woolies and Superdrug; so they know they've got a captive audience when it comes to people buying stuff. Besides most of the stuff was discounted before Xmas as poor sales seemed to affect the whole country!

Quite a few of the smaller, independent shops close for a few weeks during January or February as there are very few tourists here to make it worth their while being open. They seem to forget that some people live here all year round!!

I hope that some of you saw the recent BBC2 programme "Castle In The Country" about Bute and may consider coming up here sometime (I'd make it the Summer if I was you!!) We'd love to see you!

Happy New Year!!

Happy Hogmany/New Year!!

Well, 2006 nears its end and its certainly going out with a bang!
The weather here on Bute is awful and not looking like getting much better for a few days so I guess 2007 will start as 2006 left off!!
Needless to say, the ferries are off , so yesterday the shelves in the supermarket were virtually empty not long after the shop opened. You'd think people were stocking up for spending a month in isolation!!
I don't know how the other islands cope, but I've got a theory that the people here don't really see this place as an island. Because its so close to the mainland and you can see it clearly every day, I think a lot of folk panic when the ferries stop!
Me, I love it! The idea that the outside world stops at Wemyss Bay and we can just get on with our lives over here at our own pace.
Whatever you do tonight and whoever you spend it with, Have a happy hogmany and here's to a peaceful and prosperous 2007.
