Mary's marriage in 1566 to the young nobleman, Lord Darnley, angered many of the nobles. This arrogant outsider had to go.
It didn't take long for Mary to realise that Darnley was a drunken idiot and she wished she'd never married him.
Surrounded by enemies, it was no real surprise when Darnley was killed in 1567.
