A House Full of Heartbreak and Hope
JB and Lauren help Kate tackle a house packed with generations of memories. Can restored heirlooms and forgotten treasures fund a healing family trip to the Lake District?
The last few years have brought unimaginable sadness for Kate, who has lost her mother, father, brother and sister-in-law in quick succession. Now the matriarch of a once-bustling family, she’s been left with the emotional and practical burden of clearing the home and office space that has been in her family since 1912. Once the beating heart of family life and the headquarters of their haulage business, every room is overflowing with memories she’s been too heartbroken to confront.
With cupboards full of heirlooms, office relics and forgotten treasures, Kate has called in the Travelling Auctioneers to help her finally tackle what has felt like an impossible task to take on alone. She hopes the money raised will bring all 17 members of her family together for a special meal, and if there is enough left over, a trip to the Lake District – the place where she had her final family holiday with her late brother.
Auctioneer JB works his way through decades of belongings, including model trains, dairy bowls, motoring signs, classic car parts and car memorabilia from the long-closed haulage business. With sentimental jewellery collections belonging to Kate’s late mother expected to make over a thousand pounds, and even a 1930s camera set to turn bidders’ heads, he’s determined to help Kate raise as much from these beloved possessions as possible.
Meanwhile, restorer Lauren gets to work on several generations of family heirlooms: repairing a torn-in-half vintage motoring sign, bringing Kate and her late brother’s childhood Mobo rocking horse back to life and even delving into a skip full of off-casts from the house clearance to help in her repair mission.
On auction day, Kate’s mum’s jewellery ignites some keen bidding, the collection of car parts gets the auction motoring along, and Lauren wins the bidders over with her nostalgic restoration projects.
Each item still holds sentimental memories, but will Kate be able to let go and will our Travelling Auctioneers help raise enough for her to bring her family back together, create happier memories and move on from a difficult few years?
