Eleven Years On... Mum's Hoard Hits the Auction

When his father died, Gordon moved back into his parents’ home in Motherwell to care for his mother, Eliza, who was an avid collector. It’s been 11 years since Eliza passed, but Gordon still hasn’t had the heart to part with most of her possession, including a huge number of ornaments. But with the house jam-packed with boxes full of the items she loved, he feels now is the time to move on.

With Izzie and JJ’s help, and that of his karaoke pal Sharon, Gordon hopes to find new homes for the huge number of items in the family home. He wants to raise enough money for a special holiday to mark his 60th birthday, a present he knows his late parents would have loved to give him.

Izzie painstakingly works through Eliza’s favourite pieces: cut-crystal treasures and porcelain figurines. And she gets to work unboxing an array of collector’s edition pieces, rummages through Gordon’s record collection and finds a stash of valuables in a surprisingly deep wardrobe.

JJ discovers a fixer-upper that takes him straight back to his childhood of Saturday night dinners in front of the TV. He is also tasked with bringing the gleam back to two rather large and heavy pieces of alabaster furniture that Gordon’s mum brought back from holiday in her suitcases!

But will it be the collection of crystal critters or some bits of bling that brings a sparkle to the auction room?
