SXSW 2016 on BBC Radio

South by Southwest is one of the most important dates on the calendar in the world of music. Now in it's 30th year the event is bigger than ever, hosting gigs at well over 100 venues across Austin, Texas. From Wednesday 16th till Saturday 19th March here's how BBC Radio will be giving you access to the world's leading new music festival.

The Austin action kicks off on BBC Radio 1 as Huw Stephens gets ready for BBC Introducing and PRS for Music Foundation's SXSW showscase with a special programme on Wednesday 16th March at 10pm, including a chat with young songwriter Billie Marten. Shakka and Elf Kid pay Huw a visit to chat about 1Xtra's first ever BBC Introducing gig too.

On Thursday 17th March at 10pmJo Whiley presents her first ever show from South by' on BBC Radio 2. They'll be highlights from the previous night's BBC Introducing showcase and a live session from Introducing's very own Jake Bugg.

Over on BBC Radio 6 Music new music guru and aficionado of all things SXSW Steve Lamacq takes a break from navigating Austin discovering bands and broadcasts a special edition of his drivetime programme on Friday 18th March at 4pm. Steve will play live tracks and chat with BBC Introducing in Sheffield act The Sherlocks.

As the festival reaches it's close join BBC 1Xtra for an evening celebrating some of the finest new urban music coming out of the UK in 2016. Broadcasting live from 7pm on Saturday 19th March, Mistajam is joined by Charlie Slot and DJ Target for huge live broadcast, including highlights from the very first BBC Introducing & 1Xtra SXSW showcase.
