Surviving the second term!
Books
Books, books and more books!

Veronica has survived her second term, and has even managed to stay in her pyjamas until 10am!

More reading looms for next term but at least she's got through this one!

This morning for the first time since too long ago, I was able to stay in my pyjamas until 10.00am!

OK not an achievement that many students would boast of, but for me a major turning point.

I can also boast that last week I was in a condition that can be described as faintly inebriated (one major benefit for a student on a tight budget of limited contact with alcohol over the past term is that a little currently goes a long way)!

I even made it to Betty’s with some visiting friends this weekend. Where demonstrating that students can be refined, we sipped hot chocolate and ate our various cakes whilst listening and occasionally singing along to the pianist playing music from old films and musicals.

Finally, after weeks of early mornings when the reading that didn’t get done the night before had to be completed, I have some time to relax!

It's becoming increasingly hard to believe that this time last week I was in the final stages of a gruelling two day history exam.

Still, although writing two 2,000 word essays seemed impossible, the amazing satisfaction upon handing them in (which may have resulted in several sightings of history students jumping in the air and clicking their heels together) almost made it worthwhile!

A moment of triumph made even better by the fact that we have neither lectures nor discussion groups this week, and most importantly no reading!

Well, no history reading at least… Yes now that the spring term is virtually over, I’m an English student again so it’s back to Shakespeare, Milton and seventeenth century verse.

One advantage of being an English History student though, is that not only do I approach the term convinced that it can’t involve as much hard work as the last one. In this case last term's module on Early Modern European history means that I will have some key and naturally expert background knowledge about the later Renaissance and Restoration. Maybe I am doing the right degree after all!

So for the moment at least, I’m happy and vaguely relaxed. Yes that pile of books to read over the next five weeks is large, and by the end of the week two of the summer term I’ll be wishing I was a History student again.

But for now I can enjoy the fact that despite the moaning, the exhaustion and seriously crazy moments I’ve survived my second term!
