Greetings all. I'm Katy, I'm 19 years of age and on October 11th I'll be getting round to starting my degree. By this date I will hopefully have my accommodation details, have filled in the thousands of pieces of paper York keep sending me and be generally packed and ready to go. I've read all the essential pieces of information, about insurance and student loans, in fact I don't know if I could be much more prepared. However, chances at some point in the first week I will have realise that there was something I forgot to do. I've spent my life living in Chester, that's right the supposed home of Hollyoaks. I'm moving from a city with tourists, Roman walls and a large racecourse to a different city, also with tourists, Roman walls and a large racecourse! York should be fairly familiar then. I decided to take a year out before entering university. After the pleasures of A Level I decided I needed a break from exams so I decided to spend six months working in a school in Canada. I had the most fantastic of times, it was the kind of experience that sticks with you for life. I can now sail a tall ship, ski and catch and gut a fish. As I couldn't find a job that required that combination of skills I'm taking something a little more relevant - History. Well some of you may not think it THAT relevant - However if I wish to become a secondary school History teacher it is fairly important. I'm not really to sure what I'm expecting out of university. I'm looking forward to the social side of things. It also seems a good chance to try out some new sport maybe. I think overall I'm just trying to go in with an open mind and see what this first year holds. Katy
