Ok so Ive survived the first term and Christmas dinner cooked on our, recently upgraded, baby bellings and with history rather than English this term life should be a breeze. Hmm somethings gone wrong here! As an English student last term, history had become somewhat idealised as a much easier subject to cope with and one for which I would naturally be expected to do very little hard work. With hindsight, English is beginning to seem a much less pressured course! To be fair to the history department the reading packs handed to us at our briefings last weeks are definitely value for money; with a large section to read and annotate each week in addition to four lectures, two discussion groups, oh and any further reading we can cram in we should be left with plenty of free time to prepare for those two essays due in, in week 5 and of course exams in week 9. Actually maybe if I hadnt been a little over-enthusiastic when it came to signing up to societies last term and were also trying to fit in a part time job this could have been the case. However, naively expecting a much lighter work load this term, Im currently signed up to YSIS, hours of rehearsals, Spanish courses oh and working in a shop with a very sales focused manager. But enough of the moaning to which anyone on my corridor who stands still for more than two minutes is instantly subjected. Its time I learned some time management skills. As long as I work every free hour, get up early and stay up lateish everything should be fine- just need to meet those sales targets at work now! On the bright side the lack of a social life will save money, although the frequent treats of hot chocolate and biscuits may balance that out! At least everything will seem a little easier next term when I will be sure to give all history students the respect they deserve!
