| Okay, it's crunch time. Time to squash all those essential items, like wooden spoons, phone chargers and biscuits into any boxes or suitcases I can lay my hands on. And the stress levels? Approaching dangerously high! After weeks of waving goodbye to nervous friends and replying automatically that I'd be starting a course at York in October I'm down to the final days. Clothes are being frantically shoved in the wash, the seams on an already full suitcase are beginning to split will I really need a frying pan? I knew I was in trouble last night when just about to get some much need Pre-Freshers week sleep an awful though struck me - Oh my God I'm actually going to University on Sunday, this is not a drill! Of course that sinking feeling isn't helped when you're sister (taking a sceptical glance at the rather worn teddy bear that you just can't survive without) asks you If people are ever bullied at University?'. Or when your parents reassure you, that If you don't like it you can call them anytime and they'll come and get you.' In fact it's perhaps not surprising that 'The complete works of Shakespeare' just got thrown across the room, or you slammed that door rather to hard just now. Emotions are running high. Pause, Deep breaths, thousands of other people are in the same boat. You've just had an e-mail from someone who's settled in so well they're already missing lectures. You can and will survive this experience! OK so one more read through the indispensable student guides and a last trip into town to get yet another set of passport photos. Then soon enough it'll be time to shove everything into the car and wave goodbye to anyone who can be bothered to drag themselves out of bed at 7am on a Sunday morning. But for now back to business. There are books to sort, CDs to borrow, I wonder if I could fit the dog in somewhere? Veronica Could you be a student diarist?
