Hurrah for week 6
Books
Just some of the books Priscilla doesn't have to read.

"I have an absurd amount of free time, enough to catch both episodes of 'Neighbours' on a daily basis" confesses Priscilla.

What's more on top of this, she now gets a weeks holiday. The joys of 'week 6'.

Week 6 is now upon us here at York, essentially meaning one of two things: a week holiday for arts students, time for which is needed 'to catch up' on reading; or rather differently, a week like any other for the rest of campus, who painfully try to ignore those not attending classes, while still dreaming of that elusive 'lie in'.

I can fortunately say that I do not belong to the latter group, and have an absurd amount of free time, enough to catch both episodes of 'Neighbours' on a daily basis.

University is easy for us 'arts' people; the minimal hours throughout the week lends itself to developing an utter slothful attitude, or otherwise an adoption of a completely useless hobby, helping you to forget the primary reason you joined university.

This reading week, however, campus will experience an exodus of second year English students, all living like hermits for seven days while attempting to complete the holy grail of assignments, the assessed essay. If there is one word we dislike, it is definitely assessed, usually associated with another rather odious word, deadline.

This term, unlike relaxed and laid back freshers, second year English students will be making the library their home, and text books jammed pack full of critical theory, their bedtime stories.

This is perhaps no consolation to certain scientists who have never been allowed a reading week, despite their piles of assignments.

However, in the arts world, sleep will be reduced and take-aways will be on the menus in nearly every household, a rather shocking shake up of events. And they say we're to blame for our unhealthy lifestyle…
