I'm a second-year Economics student at York Uni. I've had writers' block since I was 17. Not very useful for someone who once wanted to be a novelist. It's amazing, though, how such powers of imagination (and fabrication) return to me when it comes to writing essays in exams. I'm a self-confessed shopaholic, and as yet, no one I've met has challenged me on my claim that I am the laziest person they've ever met. You'd think that would make me too lazy to shop. I come from a foreign land of sunshine, good food, and cheap, well, everything (it's called Malaysia). Having been here for a year and a half, I still find myself thinking of how a can of Pepsi here could buy six cans of Pepsi at home (give or take one can with inflation and the fluctuations in the exchange rate) (wow, for a moment there I sounded like a real Economist!). The lack of sunshine up north disturbs my moods, and I still need to get used to the winter weather. That said, I actually do love York. Mariam
