This isn't how it was supposed to be, seriously I'm sure the brochure said hot, sun, shorts needed... apparently not. Now that I have arrived in Sydney it is colder than in England and I'm telling the truth! Considering my rucksack is stuffed with shorts, T-shirts and vests the cold has come as a bit of a shock! Nevertheless I am enjoying Sydney. It's an awesome city but so expensive. Think London prices which has come as a fair shock after the cheap living that was Bangkok. I'm trying to make the most of being in Sydney and am playing at being tourist - going up the Sky tower, touring the harbour by boat and spending a day on Bondi (Yes in true British style it may be chilly but decked out in shorts and vest I even caught the sun and am now sporting a fetching red nose!) However playing at being the tourist isn't what I came out here for and certainly isn't something my bank account would thank me for. So with that in mind I'm searching for work, probably outside of Sydney because if I stay all the money I earn will go straight on accommodation and living so I think I head up north (not just because its sunny up there honest). There is a lot of fruit picking and so I reckon I'll try to get some work doing that. Apparently it's hard work but I've never been one to shy away from a challenge so it looks likely the next port of call will be Darwin in the Northern Territory. Although I haven't spent too much time in Sydney I know I will be back. I've already booked in to a hostel for Christmas and New Year!.... Well come on how often am I going to get the chance to see the New year in looking over the fireworks over the Opera house and Harbour bridge! | | Sydney Opera House fireworks |
Australia seems an awesome place. Its size astounds me and now that I have arrived I am dumb struck by the fact that I'm actually on the other side of the world. But now that I'm here it's time to find the real Australia. I want to see the outback of course, I want to see the tourist sites but I also want to find the unspoilt Oz. The off the beaten track places that are often missed. It's strange to actually be here after such a long time planning, but now that I am here it's time to figure out where and when, and right now the only thing written in my diary is Darwin...... some time soon!
