When I finally finished my GCSEs two years ago, the first thing I did was clear out my bedroom. What happens you see is, when I'm revising (or doing anything that involves concentration really) everything else goes by the board. And putting things away is the first thing to go. Consequently by the end of the GCSE period my bedroom looked strangely inside out. A great deal on the floor and not a lot in the drawers. But that's nothing compared to how it looks this time. Perhaps A-Level revision involves more concentration. Or maybe I've just been concentrating on work for a longer period of time. But seriously, if someone had been trying to systematically empty every container in my room onto the floor, they couldn't have done a better job. Someone a while ago did an art exhibition in the Serpentine Gallery in Hyde Park which featured a great deal of material from skips around London. Well, it looks pretty like that. The only difference is, when she needed to remove it all she just called the general public in to do it for her. Which I'd rather not do to be honest
The question of course, is where do I start? Just to give you an idea of the scale of the problem, I will tell you the first times I see on my carpet when I walk in: 1. Bar of Green and Blacks Chocolate (semi-eaten) on top of a tin full of espresso mugs 2. Large and tottering pile of folders and revision guides that are, since yesterday, no longer needed, glory be! 3. 2 pairs of shoes 4. A red bandana 5. Yesterdays shopping - 3 books (Borders 3 for 2 is a terrible, terrible thing. I always have lots of books and no money), wrapping paper, chocolates for a birthday present 6. Several old newspapers 7. 2 tins of red gloss paint 8. Roll of kitchen roll 9. Copy of Big Issue 10. Raincoat
And heaven help you if you venture further in
Naturally, all of these things belong in a different place, if they have a place at all. Just the thought makes me feel tired. So why tidy up at all? Oddly I don't really know. Living in chaos does not bother me and I can still find things (eventually). Perhaps I just want the satisfaction of having tided up. Even it takes me 2 weeks. Or perhaps I am sick of my Mother showing it too any visitors as if to say, "Look at what I am prepared to put up with". One visitor described it as a 'free-easy room', which I quite liked. So its not messy, it's free-easy. And yes, I will be tidying it up. Later
