| | British Isles: A Natural History is an epic series presented by Alan Titchmarsh. Over eight programmes, screened at 9pm from Wednesday 29 September, 2004 on BBC ONE, Alan unravels the story of the evolution of the British Isles.
To accompany the series bbc.co.uk/norfolk has created this Walk Through Time, exploring the rich history and a vibrant natural habitat to be found at Whitlingham Country Park. Walk Through Time: You are invited to join the BBC on the Whitlingham Walks Through Time on Saturday 16 October, 2004 between 10am-4pm. There will be guided walks around the park, the chance to meet presenters from BBC Radio Norfolk and experts from the Broads Authority and Norfolk Wildlife Trust. Of course, the walk exists throughout the year, so make sure to explore this beautiful part of the Norfolk countryside at your leisure.

Whitlingham Park has a rich history. Once part of the Crown Point Estate owned by the famous Colman family, the site features the ruin of a monk's manor house, ancient chalk workings and evidence of Palaeolithic and Neolithic flint-knapping. | Getting there:
By bus: Catch either the 58 or 58a. Both buses go to Trowse every 30 minutes from St Stephen's Street in Norwich city centre at 13 and 43 minutes past the hour until 1813 Monday-Saturday. On a Sunday, the service runs at 25 and 55 minutes past the hour until 1555. It is a 10 minute walk along Whitlingham Lane to the park. For the latest timetable information call Traveline on 0870 608 2608. For details of wheelchair friendly buses on this route contact First Eastern Counties buses on 0845 602 0121 if travelling Monday - Saturday. On a Sunday the route is operated by Anglian Coaches, call 01502 711109.
By car: Whitlingham Country Park is just 10 minutes drive from Norwich city centre. Follow the signs for Trowse, then turn left down Whitlingham Lane and follow signs for the Little and Great Broad.
Car Parking: £1 for up to two hours, £3 over two hours, disabled badge holders - free.
By boat: Access to the park is also available by the river city shuttle which leaves Norwich from Elm Hill Quay and Railway Station Quay. Call City Boats on 01603 701701. By bike: National cycle route one runs through the park. | | Walk conditions
Paths are of varying width and consist of woodland undergrowth and a mix of compacted earth/stone that can become muddy after rain. There is one short hill of a gentle incline. The woodland sections of this walk are not suitable for wheelchairs or buggies, but the lime kiln is still accessible if approached from the road that leaves the woodland carpark.
