Star Wars C-3PO prop sells for more than $1 million at auction sale

A light-up C-3PO head which was used as a prop in a Star Wars movie, has sold for more than $1 million in the US.
The prop is part of a big film and TV auction taking place at Propstore auction house in Los Angeles.
The golden robot head belonging to the famous droid C-3PO, was used in the 1980 movie Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back.
It is thought to be the only known prop of C-3PO's head from this particular movie to go up for auction, and it sold for a whopping $1,058,400 (around £795,000).

Actor Anthony Daniels (right) played C-3PO in the Star Wars series
C-3PO was played by actor Anthony Daniels in the Star Wars movies, who wore the full-body golden suit during filming.
This particular version of the costume was made by taking plaster casts of his body and sculpting it by hand, before building it from gold-painted fibreglass sheets.
In the past other C-3PO props have sold for hundreds of thousands of pounds.

In total 250 movie and tv props went up for sale in the big auction, raising around $6.5 million (£4.9 million) in a single day.
Some of the other props include the broken pieces of the sword Narsil, used in The Lord Of The Rings, which sold for $252,000 (around £190,000).
As well as a golden ticket from the 1971 film: Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory which sold for $107,100 (around £81,000).
