Sheku Kanneh-Mason wins BBC Young Musician Strings Category Final
17-year-old cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason, from Nottingham, has won the Strings Category Final of BBC Young Musician 2016 and will progress through to the Semi-Final of the competition, joining the Keyboard, Woodwind, Percussion and Brass Category winners: pianist Jackie Campbell (15), saxophonist Jess Gillam (17), percussionist Andrew Woolcock (16) and French Horn player Ben Goldscheider (18).

The Semi-Final of BBC Young Musician will be broadcast tomorrow, Saturday 7 May at 7.30pm, on BBC Four followed by the Final on Sunday 15 May, which will take place at the Barbican, London and will be broadcast on BBC Four and BBC Radio 3.
The BBC Young Musician Strings Category Final was broadcast on BBC Four this evening (Friday 6 May, 7.30pm - 9pm) and will be available to view again on the BBC iPlayer. The Strings Category finalists were: Charlie Lovell-Jones (17), Sheku Kenneh-Mason (17), Louisa Staples (16), Joe Pritchard (16) and Stephanie Childress (16).
The five Category Finals (Strings, Percussion, Woodwind, Keyboard and Brass) were presented by Clemency Burton-Hill and former BBC Young Musician finalist, trumpeter Alison Balsom. They took place at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Cardiff.
