Andrew Woolcock wins BBC Young Musician Percussion category final

Sixteen year-old Andrew Woolcock, from Preston, has won the Percussion Category Final of BBC Young Musician 2016 and will progress through to the Semi-Final of the competition, joining the Keyboard and Woodwind Category winners Jackie Campbell (15) and Jess Gillam (17).

The BBC Young Musician Percussion Category Final was broadcast on BBC Four this evening (Friday 22 April) and will be available to view again on BBC iPlayer. The Percussion Category finalists were: Tom Pritchard (18), Joe Parks (16), Hristiyan Hristov (17), Matthew Brett (15) and Andrew Woolcock (16).

The five Category Finals (Strings, Percussion, Woodwind, Keyboard and Brass) are presented by Clemency Burton-Hill and former BBC Young Musician finalist, trumpeter Alison Balsom. They took place at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Cardiff. The Semi-Final of BBC Young Musician will be broadcast on Saturday 7 May on BBC Four followed by the Final on Sunday 15 May, which will take place at the Barbican, London and will be broadcast on BBC Four and BBC Radio 3.
