Jess Gillam wins BBC Young Musician Woodwind category final
Seventeen-year-old Jess Gillam, from Cumbria, has won the Woodwind Category Final of BBC Young Musician 2016 and will progress through to the semi-final of the competition, joining last week’s Keyboard Category winner, Jackie Campbell (15).

The BBC Young Musician Woodwind Category Final was broadcast on BBC Four this evening (Friday 15 April) and will be available to view again on BBC iPlayer. The Woodwind Category finalists were: Polly Bartlett (18), Lucy Driver (17), Jess Gillam (17), Joanne Lee (15) and Marie Sato (15).
The five Category Finals (Strings, Percussion, Woodwind, Keyboard and Brass) are presented by Clemency Burton-Hill and former BBC Young Musician finalist, trumpeter Alison Balsom. They took place at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Cardiff. The semi-final of BBC Young Musician will be broadcast on Saturday 7 May on BBC Four followed by the Final on Sunday 15 May, which will take place at the Barbican, London, and will be broadcast on BBC Four and BBC Radio 3.
