As Company Secretary he is responsible for corporate governance across the BBC – managing the activities of the BBC Board, the Executive Committee and all other corporate decision-making bodies across the BBC Group.

As chief of staff he is the principal adviser to the BBC’s Director-General and Chairman; he runs the private office that supports them in undertaking their duties.

Phil is the executive sponsor of the BBC’s LGBT+ staff group, BBC Pride.

Phil began working for the BBC in 2005 for the then-governing body of the Corporation, the Board of Governors. He subsequently worked for the BBC Trust, where he was Head of Governance. He joined the BBC executive as Company Secretary in 2014 and is now also the chief of staff to the BBC Chairman and Director-General.

Phil joined the BBC after working for the charitable sector and the civil service in Australia.
