Shirley Cameron

Shirley Cameron joined the board of BBC Media Action in July 2019.

I have been with the BBC since 1995, and was appointed as the BBC’s Group Financial Controller in May 2016, after holding a number of other senior finance roles across BBC Group, BBC Television and BBC Radio. My focus has been on efficiency and delivering value for money while ensuring the BBC has the resources to deliver innovative projects. Before joining the BBC, I spent seven years at KPMG, including a secondment to its Australia office. I hold a BA in Economics and Accounting from Reading University, the ACA qualification from the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, and am an Associate Member of the Association of Corporate Treasurers.

In my spare time, I volunteer for a number of organisations, including as a governor and chair of the finance and risk committee for the University of West London, as honorary treasurer of the Hansard Society, and as a member of the ICAEW Business Committee. From 2014-18, I was a trustee of the Grace Wyndham Goldie (BBC) Trust Fund which provides educational grants to individuals and their dependents who have worked in broadcasting.

My long career in the BBC is a result of the organisation’s close alignment with my public service values. I see such values in BBC Media Action, as well as it being a fascinating organisation doing really valuable work around the world. I bring finance and business skills along with a deep knowledge of the BBC to the BBC Media Action Board and I know I will also learn a great deal at the same time.
