Introduction

Technology refers to new tools, equipment or techniques that have been developed using scientific knowledge. There are some verbs that we often use with 'technology'. We call these combinations collocations. Learn some of them here with Beth.

Common collocations with 'technology'

invest in technology
If you invest in technology, you give money to people or companies working on that technology so that they can make it better.

  • Many companies are investing in technology which can reduce their carbon footprint.

develop technology
If you develop techology, you help to improve it. For example, you might make the technology more precise or easier to use.

  • Scientists have developed technology which allows them to create images of molecules.

introduce technology
By introducing new technology, you make it available for people to use for the first time.

  • The police have introducedtechnology which helps them track the movements of cars.

technology allows (something)
technology enables (something)
If technologyallows or enables something to happen, it makes that thing possible to occur.

  • This new computer technologyallows me to do all my work from home.
  • Advanced technologyenables the robot to perform complex tasks.

We all use technology, but what other verbs can we use with this word?
 
A company might investin technology. That means they give money to support its development.
 
We're investingintechnology in the health sector in the hope that a cure will be found.
 
You can also develop technology – continually improve and advance it.
 
They're developing software that will help reduce hospital waiting times.
 
When technology is first used, we can say it is introduced.
 
My work is always introducing new technology, but we don't know how to use it all yet.
 
Technology can allow or enable something else to happen.

This technology has allowed me to spend more time being creative and less time doing admin tasks.
