So, వాళ్లు తమ ఆసక్తి, అభిరుచుల గురించి మాట్లాడుకుంటున్నారు. ఇప్పటి అభిరుచులా లేక చిన్ననాటివా? రైట్! వాళ్ల చిన్నప్పటి అభిరుచుల గురించి చెప్తున్నారు.

Absolutely! Now let’s have a look at the language they used.

Yes! ఇప్పుడు విన్న అన్ని వాక్యాల్లోనూ వాళ్లు తమ గత అలవాట్లు ‘past habits’ గురించి చెప్తున్నారు.  వాళ్లు గతంలో క్రమం తప్పకుండా చేసిన ఏక్టివిటీస్ లేదా చెయ్యని ఏక్టివిటీస్ గురించి చెప్తున్నారు. ఇది వివరించడానికి వాళ్లంతా ఏ పదబంధాన్ని వాడారు? ఒకసారి మళ్లీ విందాం .

I used to play football with my friends.

I used to watch a lot of films.

సౌమ్య 
గమనించారా? వాళ్లు గతంలో క్రమం తప్పకుండా చేసిన పనుల గురించి చెప్పడానికి ‘used to’ అని వాడారు.

Sam 
Yes, and did you hear what we put after ‘used to’?

సౌమ్య 
Let’s listen again! ఈసారి ‘used to’ తరువాత ఏ పదాలొస్తున్నాయో గమనించండి.

I used to play football with my friends.

I used to watch a lot of films.

సౌమ్య 
ఏ పదాలొచ్చాయి? ప్రతీ వ్యక్తి ‘used to’ తరువాత క్రియాపదం వాడారు. ‘Play’ - ఆడడం, watch’ – చూడడం. ఇక్కడ సాధారణ క్రియాపదాన్నే వాడాలి. ‘Used to’ అని వాడుతున్నాం కాబట్టి గతం గురించి చెప్తున్నామని అర్థమవుతుంది. కాబట్టి simple verb ని మాత్రమే వాడాలి.

Now, let’s quickly practise the pronunciation together! The important thing to notice here is that we pronounce ‘used to’ together, not like it’s two separate words. Repeat after me:

‘used to’

‘I used to…’

‘I used to play football.’

‘I used to watch films.’

Great! అయితే, వాళల్లో ఒకరు కొంచం వ్యత్యాసంగా చెప్పారు. గమనించారా? అతను గతంలో చెయ్యని పని గురించి చెప్పారు. అతనెలా చెప్పాడో మళ్లీ విందాం. 

I didn’t use to listen to music much.

విన్నారా? అతను ‘use to’ కి ముందు ‘didn’t’ అని వాడారు. ‘Use to’ తరువాత మళ్లీ క్రియాపదాన్నే వాడారు. Simple!
