Meaning

Yasmin and Sanjay are such an odd couple! She is a ray of sunshine, always smiling and cheering people up, and he has a face like thunder most of the time. He seems furious with everyone!

1. to be a ray ofsunshine – to bring happiness into the lives of others (someone’s personality)

1. to be a breeze – to be easy or requiring little effort (an activity)

Poor Jacob is having a bad week! He’s feeling under the weather but he can’t take any time off work because he’s completely snowed under. He has lots of stressful deadlines coming up!

1. to be snowed under – to have too much work to do

2. to be under the weather – to be feeling unwell, usually with a minor illness or extreme tiredness/ fatigue

Grammar

ในแต่ละสำนวน เราสามารถเลือกใช้กริยา ‘to be’ และ ‘to have’ ได้ตามแต่ประธานและ tense ในประโยค แต่ที่เหลือเป็นวลีตายตัว

• My mother had a face like thunder when I told her I’d crashed her car.
• We’ve been under the weather for a few days. We’ll probably just take it easy this weekend.
