We all know how hard it is to change, and we tend to assume that once we’re adults, there are aspects of our personality that we are pretty much stuck with. But a huge, new reanalysis of more than 200 studies, have found that there is something that can change your personality in just a few weeks. And that something is therapy.

Kee
So I guess the old saying isn’t true!

Sam
What saying is that?

Kee
You know, ‘a leopard can’t change its spots’.

We have that saying in our language, too. ነብር ዥጉርጉርነቱን ሊቀየር አይቻለውም። But it sounds like people can change, after all.

Sam
Well that is good news! There are some aspects of some people’s personality that I wish I could change…

‘Aspects of personality’ የስብዕና መገለጫዎች ማለት ነው። Who are you talking about, Sam?

Sam
Oh, no one in particular. You know, just those people who are really negative, think they’re always right, aren’t open to new ideas… Are there any aspects of your personality you would change, Kee?

Kee
Alright, I get it! I know I can sometimes be difficult to work with…

Only sometimes?

Kee
Look, you’re not the first people to ever tell me that I have some personality traits that aren’t always fun to be around.

Local presenter
You’re always fun to be around, Kee. Your ‘personality traits’ የስብዕና ቅንጣቶች are very easy to make fun of, in fact!

Sam
Aw, let’s be nice! Kee, you have lots of lovely personality traits. You’re very kind, for example. You should definitely never change that aspect of your personality.

Kee
Aw, thanks, Sam. What about you? Are there any characteristics you would change?

Wait one second! ‘Characteristics’ ባህርያት ናቸው። Yeah, Sam, what would you change?

Sam
Oh, there are lots of characteristics I would change! I know I can be a little naïve at times…people tell me I believe things too easily...trust people too quickly…

Kee
No, no, not all.

Local presenter
No, no, no, of course not.

Kee
But that’s not necessarily a negative characteristic.

Sam
It depends, it’s not always a good thing! But, my friends think it’s funny, so they say it’s a good quality.

Local presenter
It’s definitely amusing for us, too! ‘Quality’ መልካም ጎን ማለት ነው።

Kee
I think it’s a nice quality of yours. It shows that you think the best of people and you are trusting.

Sam
Aw, thanks, Kee.

Oh, come on! I find it hard to believe that there are only 16 personality types in the whole world…

Ok, but what about the news story? Do you believe that? Would you go to therapy to change your personality?

Kee
Therapy? You mean, talking to a stranger about my feelings?

Sam
Well, they wouldn't be a stranger forever. Therapy helps a lot of different kinds of people. It might surprise you.

Kee
Maybe, you’re right. Maybe I should try it.

Sam
Would you really, Kee? That’s terrific!

Kee
Yeah, it might help me with these negative personality traits people keep saying I have.

Sam
