મિત્રો, આજે આપણે વાત કરીશું સ્વાસ્થ્ય સેવાઓના મૂલ્યાંકન વિશે. ચર્ચાની શરૂઆત પ્રશ્નથી કરીએ. યુ.કે. ના નેશનલ હેલ્થ સર્વિસ મુજબ 2017 માં દેશના કેટલા ટકા દર્દીઓએ ડૉક્ટર સાથેના પોતાના અનુભવને ‘very good’ ગણાવ્યો હતો?

અ) 50%
બ) 70%
ક) 90%

‘Very good’ ને ગુજરાતીમાં કહીશું ઘણું સારું.

I don’t have a problem with healthcare here in the UK. I can normally get to see a G.P. pretty quickly.

પ્રેઝન્ટર
A ‘G.P.’ અથવા ‘general practitioner’ એટલે દર્દીઓના સામાન્ય ગણાતાં રોગોનું સારવાર કરતો ડૉકટર.

Kee
But do you see the same G.P. each time you visit the doctor’s surgery? Apparently, that can have a positive impact on our health…

તમે બરાબર બોલ્યા કિ. મિત્રો, હવે તમે BBC Radio 4 દ્વારા Inside Health કાર્યક્રમ માટે તૈયાર કરવામાં આવેલા સમાચાર સાંભળો. સમાચારમાં Sir Dennis Pereira-Grey જણાની રહ્યા છે કે એક જ ડૉક્ટર પાસે સારવાર લેવાથી મૃત્યુ દર ઘટે છે.

Dr. Porter
Continuity has long been regarded as a good thing in medicine. Lead researcher and ex-GP, Sir Dennis Pereira-Grey.

Sir Dennis
Continuity of care with a doctor, and that means a patient repeatedly seeing a single doctor, is associated with lower death rates.

Dr. Porter
Now your research found that relationship, can it explain why?

Sir Dennis
Yes, it can! I think there are a whole lot of reasons. The interesting, basic research showed that, in fact, just repeated meeting between two human beings means that the two start to like each other more. And then there was some very important research which showed that patients were more likely to tell doctors they know and trust important information which they won't necessarily tell a strange doctor.

Kee
Hmm..Interesting, isn’t it! Seeing the same doctor can lead to lower rates of mortality amongst patients.

Tom
It’s very interesting, actually. I’m surprised.

Kee
It’s true! The doctor has research to back it up!

પ્રેઝન્ટર
‘To back up’  એટલે કોઈ વાતનો આધાર. The research also backs up the idea that people feel more comfortable speaking to the same doctor.

Tom
And it’s probably easier for the doctor to diagnose people who he’s familiar with, too.

‘To diagnose’ ને ગુજરાતીમાં કહીશું રોગનું નિદાન કરવું. True! Then the patient will be more likely to accept the diagnosis, too.

Kee
It sounds like a win-win situation to me.

પ્રેઝન્ટર
‘A win-win situation’ એટલે એવી પરિસ્થિતિ જ્યાં બન્ને પક્ષકારને ફાયદો થાય.

Tom
Well, I think quality time with anyone is great…

‘Quality time’ ને ગુજરાતીમાં કહીશું ગુણવત્તાસભર સમય. Please continue.

Tom
Thank you!  As I said, quality time is good, especially if it’s during a consultation. However, I think there’s a danger of placing an inordinate amount of trust in one person’s opinion.

પ્રેઝન્ટર
‘An inordinate amount of something’ એટલે કોઈ પણ બાબત અથવા વસ્તુનો અતિરેક. Can you explain what you mean by that?

Tom
Well, a doctor provides you with an opinion based on a consultation. However, sometimes it might be good to get a second opinion, too, in case the diagnosis is wrong.

Kee
OK, I take your point. I do put a lot of trust in doctors, but that’s usually based on their track record.

Someone’s track record relates to their successful or unsuccessful past actions. આ સાથે હું તમને આજના પ્રશ્નનો જવાબ જણાવું. મિત્રો, જવાબ છે (ક) – 90%.  નેશનલ હેલ્થ સર્વિસ મુજબ યુ.કે. ના 90% દર્દીઓએ ડૉક્ટર સાથેના પોતાના અનુભવને ‘very good’ ગણાવ્યો હતો.

‘A wider truth’ એટલે સર્વસ્વીકૃત સત્ય. And what wider truth is that?

Yes, thanks! તમારા વિશે જણાવો મિત્રો? તમારા મતે ડૉક્ટર અને દર્દી વચ્ચે ‘continuity of care’ થી આરોગ્યને લાભ થાય છે? અથવા તો શું તમે ‘second opinion’ ને પ્રાધાન્ય આપશો?  ગુજરાતીમાં ‘continuity of care’ એટલે નિયમિત રીતે સંભાળ લેવી, જ્યારે ‘second opinion’ એટલે બીજો અભિપ્રાય. મિત્રો, હવે સમય થયો છે આજે જે કઈ પણ શીખ્યા એનો અભ્યાસ કરવાનો. ‘General practitioner’ એટલે દર્દીઓના સામાન્ય ગણાતાં રોગોનું સારવાર કરતો ડૉકટર જ્યારે ‘to back up’  એટલે કોઈ વાતનો આધાર.  ‘A win-win situation’ એટલે એવી પરિસ્થિતિ જ્યાં બન્ને પક્ષકારને ફાયદો થાય અને ‘to diagnose’ ને ગુજરાતીમાં કહીશું રોગનું નિદાન કરવું. ‘Quality time’ ને ગુજરાતીમાં કહીશું ગુણવત્તાસભર સમય અને ‘An inordinate amount of something’ એટલે કોઈ પણ બાબત અથવા વસ્તુનો અતિરેક. ‘A wider truth’ એટલે સર્વસ્વીકૃત સત્ય અને ‘based on (a) track record’ નો અર્થ થાય છે ભૂતકાળ ઉપર આધારિત.
