ใช้ ‘a’ กับ ‘an’ นำหน้าคำนามที่นับได้ในรูปเอกพจน์ เมื่อพูดถึงเป็นครั้งแรกในบทสนทนา

  • When do we use 'a' and 'an'?

    We use a and an before a singular, countable noun when we mention it the first time in a conversation.

    Do we always use 'an' if the word starts with a vowel?

    No, not always. It's the sound that's important not the spelling. So for example words like 'uniform' start with a consonant sound - /j/ - so we don't use an.

    When do we use 'the'?

    We use the second time you mention something in a conversation, when you talk about something specific that both speakers know about and when there is only one of something.
