How to use 'light'

Beth teaches different ways to use 'light'.

Light is brightness that helps us see, like the light from the Sun.

I woke up early because the light was coming into the room.
Our hallway doesn't have a window, so there's very little light.

Light can be a physical thing, like a bulb, that gives brightness.

When the film started, the lights were turned down.
I can't see. Can you turn the light on please?

As a verb, light means to make something bright or burn.

Let's light our new candle.
When camping, you might light a fire using stones, wood and grass.

Lastly, light, as an adjective, often means not heavy.

You can carry the light suitcase. This one is very heavy.

Light

Light is brightness which makes us able to see.

  • I can't get to sleep when it's so light outside. 
  • This is a very light room because of the 12 large windows. 

Light can be a physical thing that gives brightness, like a lamp or bulb. 

  • Let's buy a new light for the hallway. It's too dark. 

As a verb, light means to make something bright or burn.

  • Can you light the fire? I'll get dinner ready. 

As an adjective, light often means not heavy.

  • This is a very light bag for a three-week trip!
